GMAIL Accounts unusable after 8.3 update!

I have lost access to my GMAIL accounts after upgrading to IOS 8.3 !

IOS Settings does not provide me a way to enter a new application password for the account - there is NO PASSWORD box displayed anywhere in the GMAIL configuration. So I tried deleting the account and re-adding it but i get stuck in an endless loop of two-step confirmation and it "appears" to add the account (prompts me for which features - mail, notes, calendar, etc.) but then when all is said and done NO GMAIL ACCOUNT shows up in my list of accounts. WTH?

And trying to navigate Apple's support screens has become an exercise in frustration and futility!

Anyone got any ideas how to fix this mess?

I also had experienced this issue. You need to power off the iPad or iPhone.

To Power off this is to hold the On/Off button and slide the power off. Wait for a couple of seconds when it's done loading.

Another way is to remove your Email account from settings and add it back on settings.

i went on my Windows laptop and changed the passwords. Once done I re added my emails and entered the new password IOS 8.3 treated my email passwords as errors. I had really gotten tired of the whole thing. I did not delete any passwords just changed them. This was an IOS 8.3 issue. I am not sure if Apple agrees but it does not matter.

I hope this helps

These are the steps: Go to a windows or android system to obtain new passwords. Next delete whatever mail app you are using under IOS 8.3. Add each email with your new passwords.

The logic behind this: I knew this was an IOS 8.3 issue. I was not having this problem using Windows or Android. That was the reasoning for creating in a non- IOS environment. Make sure you delete the email application then install again. Add each email. It will work if these steps are followed.

Hi, all.

I have been having the same issue with my gmail account not working, but have found a solution. So, since my e-mail account is for college purposes, our school requires that you create an new password every 90 days. I did that this morning, and was prompted to reenter the password under settings, but only a blank page would appear that had nowhere for me to input the new password. Trying to add a new account using the 'Google' option ultimately ended in the same result. I have found a way to get around this.

Delete your gmail account off the Apple Mail app, and go to 'Add New Account.' Instead of clicking 'Google' as the account, click 'Other' and manually fill in your information (Name, Username [e-mail address], password, and description.) Click 'Next' and enter in blank information for an IMAP account.

Incoming Mail Server

Host Name: imap.gmail.com

Username: (Your e-mail address)

Password: (Your e-mail password)

Outgoing Mail Server

Host Name: smtp.gmail.com

Username: (Your e-mail address)

Password: (Your e-mail password)

Hope this helps!

There is a much easier fix to this.

On your iOS device go to Settings / Safari / Passwords & Autofill / Saved Passwords

remove any google passwords you have there

then go to settings / Mail, Contacts, Calendars

find your account that is not working, click the slider for Mail from green to off, then click back to general settings and then go back in the turn the Mail slider from off to green, it will then re prompt you for your google credentials and will ask you to to confirm a permissions page. Once you complete these steps the accounts will work again.

I just did this and my notes are now syncing again.

I suspect this was a Google update to request permissions, or an Apple update that requires these permissions be given. Simple fix.

I found success. Go to Settings --> Mail --> <Google Email> Account -->

With the <Google Email> Account Name at the top of the screen, click on the 'gray font' email ID next to 'Account".

Click on the 'gray font' 'Gmail SMTP Server' under OUTGOING MAIL SERVER.

The top of the screen now says' SMTP'. There is a 'PRIMARY SERVER' and I found that one on, and when I clicked on that one, the next page which has the page heading 'Gmail SMTP Server', under Outgoing email server, the user name and password were grayed out.

So in the upper right corner, i clicked on 'Cancel'.. which took me back to the SMTP screen.

I then proceeded to go through each of the 'OTHER SMTP SERVERS' listed at the bottom of the screen.

One of these is 'smtp.gmail.com'.. and when I clicked on it, the user name and password fields were capable of being updated.

Afer updating them, I made sure the 'Server' slider button was 'green' and the 'Use SSL' slider button was 'green' too.

Authentication should be set to 'Password' (mine already was).

Sacre bleu! It works!

I really think this is 'sloppy' Google programming, not an Apple iOS deal.

I had similar problem with Gmail and ios 8.3.

you may have solved yours by now but this what I did and after days of browsing and messing with imap, pop

etc:

So--on 'Add Account' in settings, and on the list is 'Google'.

I selected it and further completed the subsequent menu.

SO my 'MAIL' now includes Gmail.

JUst to add that previously I did a ' Restore' of 8.3 via iTunes on my laptop

Good Luck to all those frustrated ipad users

I had exactly the same problem on a completely new iPad delivered a few days ago. Thanks Mystic1 for your detailed explanation of the issue. There seems to be lots of different issues with hooking up Apple products with Google. The problem I had, like you, was that there were no errors given. After going through the Google login and pressing the Accept button (which tells Google to accept connections from the ipad) a few screens flash and it goes back to the Settings > add mail account screen - but the new email account is not there. I have spent many hours trying every suggestion in this forum and using Apple support Without success.

I worked around it with a caldav connection.

In my case I don't have a Google email account. I have only a login to Google which gives me access to calendars including a shared calendar. My goal is only to get this shared calendar showing in the Calendar app.

When adding the account I went to

Settings > Add Mail, Calendar... > Other [not Google] > CalDav

The server is google.com

I generated an app specific password on Google for "Calendar on iPad" (because I have enabled2 factor authentication in Google)

I went to advanced settings, enabled SSL and set the port to 443 (I have no idea why it defaults to 0. That won't work)

I then enabled Calendars and disabled Notes.

Now I have my calendar synced into my iPad Calendar app.

So this has been terribly frustrating. I have what I believe is the exact same problem, but I am going to quickly summarize.

I was up and running with iPhone 6, iPad mini, and iMac all updated with most current software versions (iOS 8.3 and OS X). Everything operating very smoothly. My university IT department requires us to change password every 90 days. My university uses google for everything, but to make sure everyone understands the process (because in reality I do not), I login to gmail with (username)@(university).edu and I am immediately redirected to another site to complete the login process (ours is called gozer.(university).edu). It does not even matter what password you put in on the initial google page, the verification only occurs on the subsequent page.

I do use keychain for all my i-devices and have never had a problem. When I changed my password this time, the 1st time with iOS 8.3, every google connected app stopped working (primarily gmail and calendar - I was able to google drive back up and running on iOS). The symptoms are similar to what has been discussed here, but they differ on how you try to login. When initially attempting to open mail and connect to my gmail university account, I get prompted that I must reenter my password, but their is no way to enter the password.

I then reluctantly deleted my university gmail accounts and tried to reset them back up. When I do this I can occasionally get to a login page, but the process hangs up and never completes. I have tried powering off several times and for extended periods. This occasionally does get my further into the login process, but the process always hangs up.

After reading this entire post, I went into every i-device and deleted every password on each device and my keychain that I thought was at all related to any google account (I have university ones and personal ones) as well as any password that had (university).edu in it. This process still does not work and I get the same error. I even tried moving the slider to off for "names and passwords" and "passwords & autofill" in safari settings.

As a last ditch effort I have tried configuring gmail manually as chopper26 suggests above suggests. This process does work and is a viable solution for gmail only. Unfortunately it does not address contacts or calendar so it is not a complete solution.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and yes I know I can use other apps (gmail app and google calendar app) to fill the void, but I am pretty stuck in my ways and wanted to use the normal Apple mail and calendar app. Thanks in advance.
