GMAIL Accounts unusable after 8.3 update!

I have lost access to my GMAIL accounts after upgrading to IOS 8.3 !

IOS Settings does not provide me a way to enter a new application password for the account - there is NO PASSWORD box displayed anywhere in the GMAIL configuration. So I tried deleting the account and re-adding it but i get stuck in an endless loop of two-step confirmation and it "appears" to add the account (prompts me for which features - mail, notes, calendar, etc.) but then when all is said and done NO GMAIL ACCOUNT shows up in my list of accounts. WTH?

And trying to navigate Apple's support screens has become an exercise in frustration and futility!

Anyone got any ideas how to fix this mess?

I also had experienced this issue. You need to power off the iPad or iPhone.

To Power off this is to hold the On/Off button and slide the power off. Wait for a couple of seconds when it's done loading.

Another way is to remove your Email account from settings and add it back on settings.

I have same issue but I do not believe it is an apple issue. Its a google issue. After the update I attempted to retrieve my email and I was unable to. I recieved and IMAP error message on my iphone. So after many attempts at fixing such as deleting account and re-installing account, then turning on and off...it still did not work. I gave up! I checked my email on my compute and received the following message from gmail/google:

"We recently blocked a sign-in attempt to your Google Account xxxxxx@gmail.com.

Sign in attempt details

Date & Time: Sunday, July 12, 3:18 PM EDT

Location: New York, NY, USA

If this wasn't you

Please review your Account Activity page at https://security.google.com/settings/security/activityto see if anything looks suspicious. Whoever tried to sign in to your account knows your password; we recommend that you change it right away.

If this was you

You can switch to an app made by Google such as Gmail to access your account (recommended) or change your settings at https://www.google.com/settings/security/lesssecureapps so that your account is no longer protected by modern security standards.

To learn more, see https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/6010255."

So apparently gmail has an app blocking feature called "less secure apps settings" that is automatically pre-set on a blocking mode. You have to go in to the link listed above in email or in your account settings and put it on unblocking mode in order to use the iphone email options for your gmail account. I chose to just download gmail app from the app store so I don't have to continue figuring this stuff out on my own. But thought everyone should know so your not as fustrated as I was. Good luck everyone.

ok i figured it out!! I was having the same problem. So I went to safari and logged into my gmail account. And because the email I was using was not a google email address, I had to associate my account with a gmail account. After I did this, I was then able to go back to my iphone and my iPad, and add google to my accounts.

now it works great!!!

hope this helps. It's a google problem NOT apple.

Thanks! this helped me. I did not like how after the update iOS now required that I sign into my google account and grant iOS permissions to manage my profile email, calendar, and contacts. I turned on Two-Step verification for my Google account, generated application specific passwords for email and calendar (I don't sync contacts), and then added the accounts by clicking Other instead of Gmail:

Settings

Mail, Contacts, Calendars

Add Account

Other

Add Mail Account

Name: Your Name

Email: (your gmail address)

Password:(app specific password)

Description: Gmail

Incoming Mail Server

Host Name: imap.gmail.com

Username: (your gmail address))

Password: (app specific password)

Outgoing Mail Server

Host Name: smtp.gmail.com

Username: (your gmail address))

Password: (app specific password)

Add CalDAV

CalDAV Calendar:

I had the same issue and only figured it out when my gmail apparently got hacked. I changed my password using my laptop, then when I attempted to do it on my iPhone 6 Plus and my iPad Air 2, I discovered that there was no place to enter a password. I had also turned on 2-step verification. This is what fixed the problem.

1. Downloaded/set up the Gmail app on my iPhone and my iPad

2. Deleted the gmail account from the mail settings on the iPhone and iPad

3. Returned to the mail setup (for all my other accounts i.e. hotmail, icloud, yahoo, etc) and set up my gmail as a new account. I was prompted with the typical Gmail login screen, which showed my photo. I had to enter the email account and password, then got a text message on my iPhone with a verification code to enter (This was part of the two step verification)

It's been only 45 minutes since I completed it, and I've sent a few test emails from my different accounts and so far, everything is fine!

I hope everybody else has the same good luck.

Tammie (Oh, by the way, my iPhone and iPad are running iOS 8.4)

I had always been a PC gal, but now that I've gone from iPhone 3 to iPhone 6 Plus and iPad to iPad Air 2, my next laptop will be a Mac of some sort!!

Again, best of luck to you all, and I hope my answer helps!

I was having the same problem. I'm not sure if it started when I updated to 8.3 or when I replaced my iPhone 6 but one of my 7 gmail accounts stopped working. I deleted it and tried adding it again just to get looped back to the add account screen.

What worked for me was to add the account as "other" not as a google mail account. I entered in all the settings manually and it worked first try.
