iTunes 12.1.2 will not open

After upgrading to iTunes 12.1.2, iTunes will not launch. Here is what I have found in the console.

Hey there... I so get that.... it's easier than you think.

After step one, go to Spotlight (the little magnifying glass in the top right corner of your screen), type "terminal" and open the app.. it'll just be a small white box.

Where the grey cursor is, paste this: sudo rm -r /Applications/iTunes.app

Hit enter.

Now go back to the iTunes file you downloaded, double- click it and install.

Enjoy your music ;)

Hi,

I was in the same boat. The terminal fix didn't work for me either (I have late 2012 Mac-Mini, running Yosemite OS X version 10.10.3) . It wouldn't accept my admin password, so I couldn't delete iTunes app. I even had my programer friend try the terminal fix for me to make sure I was doing it correctly. Anyway, I finally tried this method to delete/remove iTunes app version 12.1.2 and it worked for me: http://www.tekrevue.com/tip/uninstall-itunes/

What a relief to finally empty the trash and be rid of iTunes 12.1.2. It would never launch/open! I was able to reload/restore my previous version of iTunes from my Carbon Copy Cloner backup (on an external hard drive) and now everything is back to normal working order.

Anyway, hope this method works for you and any others out there who could not get the terminal code method to work on their system.
