I can't add a new Google account in Yosemite 10.3.3

I am trying to add a Google account via Internet Accounts in System Preferences, but all I get is this window spinning forever and ever. Have tried many times.

Have also tried via Mail but same problem. I understand 10.3.3 supports 2 step verification for Google but I can't get that far.

Any suggestions?

The (Read Only) by Inbox in your screenshot is not something I have seen. I suspect this is a permissions issue. Without more history and understanding your skill level it's hard to know what the easiest option would be.

Testing in a new User will quickly tell you if the problem is system wide or if it's your User's folder that contains the problem.

(Note: it might be easier to move you to a new User than try to fix the problem in your User's account especially if it's not just mail that is having permission issues.

CREATE A NEW USER

Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Users & Groups.

Switch to the New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching.

You can skip the Apple ID setup unless you are testing iCloud.

Select Don't Sign in > Continue > Skip

Open Mail and/or System Preferences > Internet Accounts and add your Gmail account.

Open Mail if you did this in Spotlight and see if your account has been added.

Let me know results of testing in new User.

Hello!

(sorry for the laaaate reply).

I did what you suggest and worked. Creating a new user and login with it, I can set the mail without problems.

Now, I have a lot of files and applications installed that obviously do not show on this new user. How can I switch all that I have in my previous user to this new one?

Thanks for your support!

David.

You can try repairing the problems in your User's folder or you can move your data over via the Shared folder to the new User.

Let's try a quick fix first...

Quit Mail

Go to User's Library

Scroll down to Containers - delete the com.apple.mail folder.

Scroll down to Mail - Rename Mail to MailXXX

Scroll down to Preferences - delete the com.apple.systempreferences.plist (you will have to reset items in System Preferences)

Log out under the Apple in the Menu bar.

Delete the Trash

Open Mail

Try adding your Gmail account.

Let me know what happens.

If you do decide to move to a new User...

This duplicates data so depending on how much free space you have you will need to be careful that you move then delete & empty the trash so you don't run out of room.

If you have an external drive, I suggest you clone your current drive as a backup in addition to Time Machine backup first.

Create a Clone backup:

A clone is an exact bootable copy of your internal drive. Unlike standard copying of all files to another drive, the clone software copies hidden files along with other in-use files that are not available when you copy over files to another drive.
