photos on apple tv

Okay so I have just installed the latest Yosemite with the new "Photos" app and it is missing a major function.

Previously I could access all of my photos through my Apple TV so that we could see them on our television. When you went into the Apple TV menu and selected "Computers" it gave you the options of Music, Movies, TV Shows etc and one for Photos.

Now you don't have that. There is no option for "Photos" under the computer tab.

What there is on the main screen is "iCloud Photos" but the only photos you can access here are ones you store in your iCloud or that are part of your photo stream.

I had nearly 200GB of photos and movies stored within iPhoto and these have been successfully migrated over to "Photos" no problem.

I also have my own NAS storage at home with my own personal "cloud" and my photos are all back up on here.

The only way I see that I can now view my photos through my Apple TV on my Television is to have everything out into iCloud and pay $13 a month for the pleasure of that.

Am I missing something? If not this is a pretty crappy move by Apple and clearly just another money grab.

Apple if anyone happens to read this please put the ability to view your Albums/Events etc through an Apple TV back.

If not does anyone know how I might be able to get iPhoto back and forget about updating.

I have regular time capsule back ups so could just roll back using that but that a bit of a pain. Would rather just re-install iPhoto.

Thanks everyone

Thanks for the reply Idamario. So thinking what you said, I tried a test. In Photos, my old iPhoto events are in their own folder, but the AppleTV 2 doesn't see them. So I dragged one of those events outside of that folder so it's just in the main list of "albums."

Now in my Apple TV, the listing to see photos is GONE from the menu! Now I just have Music, Movies TV Show, Home Movies and Podcasts. Where did my Photos option go? I've restarted the Apple TV, iTunes and Photos to no avail.

What is going here?

P.S. The new Apple TV looks pretty awesome.

I Have the exact same problem with the same specs listed as yours Alex. I have restarted everything, reset Apple TV & entered the same Apple ID on Mac & Apple TV but to no avail. The iPhoto menu on Apple TV has just plain gone and there is no "Photos" menu to replace it. I can see all my music, movies, home movies and podcasts without fault.

Theres just this iCloud photos icon on apple tv which you can see the stuff you have loaded to the cloud. I don't want my photos on the cloud. I want to see them how it worked perfectly in iPhoto.

just heading out for a walk so I don't inflict unwanted damage to my TV.

I also have this issue and fully experience what idamhrio has described. I am now on 10.11.3 OS and have resolved the iPhotos -> Photos issue. this was a really bad idea, Apple! anyway, my photos just disappear on Apple TV and only appear when i register on Clod. I HATE iCloud and do not want to use it.

Resetting all usual programs in iTunes and Apple TV still does not work. My Photos are now "missing" from my library via Apple TV. Very displeased about this, as it looks more like a scam to monetise iClod usage rather that a programming oversight.

Does anyone have any new insight? Does the new version of Apple TV work better? Mine is c. 5 years old.
