ios 8.3 update, now phone can't connect to car stereo

Brand new problem this morning after ios 8.3 update.

iPhone 5c, connects via proprietary cable to my 2010 Hyundai Sonata. Never had issues, even with the 30-pin:Lightning adapter. Now every time I switch stereo to the 'aux' input (i.e., my iPhone) while phone is plugged in I get "loading error." Tried with Downcast app, Music app, restarting phone after ios update, nothing works thus far

Guess it wasn't worth saving the time on typing in passwords for free apps....

Are you referring to the native Music app, or something else? I'm guessing this Downcast app is the free app you are referring to? What type of app is this? I've got a 2012 Hyundai Sonata, but I've been too busy to update my device, so I cannot say if it works with the native apps. You say that you restarted the phone, do you mean powered off and on, or a reset by holding the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then releasing? Actually, according to Hyundai, they do not support the new phones with the lightning cable, so it working in the past has been an anomaly, but I've not had any trouble with mine through iOS 8.2, even with Bluetooth. Do these apps work when not connected to the vehicle?

Thanks, I'll clarify, though I'm guessing from your reference to Hyundai's lack of support for lightning that I am just **** out of luck and none of this info is relevant or can lead you to provide any information

Yes, it's the native Music App, and the Downcast free app that I use for podcasts (the native podcast app gave me too much trouble). Both work perfectly when not connected to the car. Regardless of which or whether an app is currently in use, I get the 'loading error' message then it just goes back to FM

I have not tried to connect to my car's bluetooth. The bluetooth is actually separate from the stereo on my car, it's the overhead add-on with small speaker

Okay, then you do not have the Nav system, correct? I have the full Nav system in my hybrid. I'm not saying that this is not relevant, and I'm providing as much information as I can. I'm a user like you, so I'm not exactly sure what you are expecting from me. I'm going to update my device later today and will be able to tell you if it affects my device. When is the last time you updated the software for your vehicle's system? Have you checked with the Hyundai dealer to see if there is an available update? Don't worry about connecting to the Bluetooth, since that is separate from your car's system, I was referring to the included Bluetooth for music. I'll be able to provide more information later, but you may be able to get some other information from your Hyundai dealer.

Thanks, wasn't really expecting anything just noting my pessimism. I will check with my Hyundai dealer & ask about software updates. No harm trying now since it can't make it work less 🙂

I don't know about no fancy nav system. The 2010 model year was the last one before the total overhaul/redesign (you know, the 2004-Accord clones). The extent of fancy features for me are steering wheel stereo controls & a power-adjust driver sear

Yea, on first read your asking about specific apps & whatnot made me think you knew some reason behind what was going on, then realized you were just getting info & wanting to see likelihood it affects you as well. if it came across jerky, well, downfall of typing not speaking, right? Thanks for the response even if I am doomed to suffer with this car as it seems it will last quite awhile (I'm joking about doomed, almost free of car payments & then will just enjoy the ride without monthly payments, modern amenities be ******!)

I have this same issue - but I drive a 2012 Accent. I use the proprietary cable to a lightning adapter as well. The contacts are all snug, and I just recently cleaned the inside of the lightning port on the phone. I use a 5s, and bluetooth connecting/playing works.

I did find a reboot allowed the music to play for 1 "session" (either pause, disconnect/reconnect), but after that it will error out every time I try to re-connect to the car.

This did not happen before the 8.3 update.

Hello Mark Entel,

I have the same problem with my Hyundai Sonata 2011.

I am already wrote a bug report to apple. Here i will past it again:

Hello,

I have a problem with synchronization.

Here steps to reproduce it:

1. Plug iPhone with iOS 8.3 via Original Cable ( USB + 3.5mm on 30 pin) + original adapter from 30 pin to lighting.

2. Verify that music plays and iPod menu successfully loaded.

3. Unplug cable from iPhone.

4. Plug it again.

expected result:

- Ipod menu Loaded. The song plays from place where it was stopped by unplugged.

actual result:

- initialization error

My Device: Iphone 5s

IOS: 8.3

Car: Hyundai Sonata 2011 (YF ; 6 generation)

On all previous IOS it was worked fine.

Fix for this issue:

- Reboot phone and plug it again. But after unplug and plug it again the issue still reproducible. Only reboot can helps.

Please try to fix it.

Kind Regards, Vladislav Ishkov

Just want to add a process/work-around I have discovered. This has worked the past couple of days though not perfectly. It isn't terrible, just an extra step and at least the phone/stereo connection works, better than nothing.

Step 1 - Quit music, podcast, etc apps. I use the native music app & downcast for podcasts. I quit out of both. (Haven't tested if having any apps open, maybe anything that uses phone speakers could interfere with car connection? Rampant speculation)

Step 2 - Plug into the car cable

Step 3 - The car should recognize the iPhone and launch your music, starting with whatever song comes first in the alphabet. (Some wonkiness if the cable connection isn't perfect, happens to me occasionally due to the 30-pin to lightning adapter, still 8 or 9 out of 10 times it seems to be working)

Step 4 - I can now choose what I want to hear. (The car stereo interface has access to playlists, artists, albums, etc. Or I can open Downcast and listen to podcasts. Or if you prefer to the car stereo interface, open Music app & choose what you want)

this is working maybe 9 times out of 10, ok so it's more annoying for short bursts of driving such as several errands in the local area but for my commute or future highway trips it is good enough to get the job done.

Sorry, I've not had a chance to get back to you. After updating my 5s, and plugging in the OEM cable from Hyundai, I was able to read and play music. Like I said earlier, I have a 2012 Sonata Hybrid with the Nav system. I spoke to my daughter who has a 2013 Elantra with the standard radio system and an OEM cable. She has an iPhone 6 with iOS 8.3, and has experienced the error on occasion. She says it does not happen all of the time, so I think it may have to do with using the OEM cable and the lightning adapter which may not work well together. I think that Hyundai needs to come up with a cable designed for the lightning connector that makes sure it works with their standard radio system.

Music integration with iOS 8.2 and below was flawless for me with my 5s. I use the feature often enough I noticed the only difference was 8.3 vs. 8.2.

In reply to Mark's most recent post, I did notice quitting all the music apps, and then allowing the system to prompt the iPhone to start playing did allow for a successful session, although it was not completely reliable, nor is this an acceptable solution.

I agree it is not acceptable from that standpoint. However, if you check with Hyundai, despite the fact that the devices worked, they do not support the phones with the lightning connectors. They need to release a new OEM cable. I've already provided Hyundai feedback. I'm fortunate, in that it still works for me with the Nav system, but I would rather not have to have a lightning to 30-pin adapter on the cable.
