Can't sync with the new Photos app?

Apparently you can't sync with the new Photos library from the Mac to iPad? You can copy photos from folders but it doesn't allow you to choose the new library. Am i missing something because this really doesn't work for me. I do not want to share all my photos with all my devices from iCloud. Its way too much data. I have only put a select set of photos on my iPad so now when I make changes to albums on my Mac they don't get synched to the iPad.

I am using Yosemite with Photos 1.0 (209.52.0) and iTunes 12.1.27. And I just upgraded the iPad to the latest iOS 8.3

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

10.8.5 Mountain Lion, iTunes 12.1.2.27. MacBookPro, iPhone5.

Also very messed up Photos folder. There is no 'Photos' app in ML. And since Apple no longer supports iPhoto, I tossed it.

After upgrade to iOS 8.3, photos in folders I created do not sync at all. And versions of older folders I once had and deleted appear. It puts stuff everywhere, not following the order I created.

I've restarted (not factory reset … yet) the Phone. Tossed the iTunes photo cache several times. Thought it was capacity, but iTunes keeps giving me very different storage numbers, and clearly non-matching folder counts.

Apple, please fix this.

Thing is, it worked without using any app before iOS 8.3, if you weren't aware.

All you did was create a main folder in Pictures. Add subfolders. Add content to subfolders. Tell iTunes to use that main folder and all subs.

Easy.

Many users have noted this issue. EIther the phone or iTunes creates a lot of other folders with previous iterations, and scrambles the locations of images on the Phone versus the Computer version.

I found that selecting the iPhone in iTunes then selecting "Sync Photos" and selecting the "Photos" from the drop down solved this for me.

Since the iPhotos App is no longer present it doesn't know to automagically select the new Photos App as the default App to sync photos with.

The problem I and others are having is the drop down in iTunes, that normally shows up to the right of "Sync Photos" doesn't even show up in the first place.

I have the same/a similar problem. I import a photo to Photos, but iTunes (which is always running, I use it to listen to radio) won't push it to neither iPhone nor iPad when they are synchronized.

The workaround is to simply restart iTunes. It then seems to recognize the changed photos database and pushes the photo to the devices during synchronization.

Since that worked perfectly with iPhone that is clearly a bug in iTunes and/or Photos.

No luck for me. Tried all above and still in iTunes there is no dropdown menu where I can choose Photos.

There used to be a dropdown menu on the right hand side of "Sync Photos" where I used to choose iPhotos.

Now the dropdown menu just disappeared.

The dropdown is still there.

If Photos is not available, open the Photos app then menu Photos > Preferences and select Use as System Photo Library.

I had the same issue, the option in ‘Photos’ to ‘Use as System Photo Library’ was, and still is greyed out, however by closing both iTunes & Photos I used the alt open option for Photos and selected the ‘Photos’ Library (and not the iPhoto Library). Closed Photos, re-opened iTunes and then ‘Photos’ magically appeared as an option in iTunes for syncing photographs.

No idea why the preference remains greyed out or why this worked for me, it just did. Apple you need to stop making this silly (or as some suggest, cynical) moves to force us to behave differently.

Hope this helps those who are still struggling with this.
