Can't sync with the new Photos app?

Apparently you can't sync with the new Photos library from the Mac to iPad? You can copy photos from folders but it doesn't allow you to choose the new library. Am i missing something because this really doesn't work for me. I do not want to share all my photos with all my devices from iCloud. Its way too much data. I have only put a select set of photos on my iPad so now when I make changes to albums on my Mac they don't get synched to the iPad.

I am using Yosemite with Photos 1.0 (209.52.0) and iTunes 12.1.27. And I just upgraded the iPad to the latest iOS 8.3

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

I had the same problem as all of you. I tried everything that was suggested, and the page still didn't have a drop-down menu. Then for some reason I made the iTunes window larger and all the necessary information appeared: the Sync Photos box, and all the choice boxes. I wonder if that window missed having whatever adjusts its text to fit.

I also wonder if the "use as system library" box in Preferences was greyed out because the library I was using already was the system library.

Thanks to all for the help.

Having the same problem, tried all of the above, choosing different library, reselecting photos as default.

The only thing is says when I click the 'photos' field in the left hand column is 'icloud photos is on' and that I can sync with that. I have so many pics I would have to pay to upload them and I don't subcribe to services as they are rarely good value.

All I see is this...

I have the same issue; I simply want to sync SOME of my photo albums to my phone, not the tens of thousands of pictures in my entire library! I spent a LOT of time getting my albums just the way I wanted them, and now I can't put specific albums on my phone. Spent over an hour today on the phone with Apple support, and he was stumped too.

It's a BIG problem for me.

Just drag the Photo library in the finder to a different place. Make sure Photos app is closed. Re-open Photos app and select the new location of Photos library then close the app move the Photos library to original location and then open iTunes and is showed up in the drop down where you could only select the folder. not you can see "Photos"

It is OK now; it seems there was some lag between turning turning "iCloud Photo Library" OFF on my phone and my computer recognizing that I now have a choice. I am now in the process of downloading just the albums I want to my phone.

So, turn off iCloud Photo Library in your iCloud Settings on your phone, then probably best to shut down your computer and wait a bit. Apple should put a message on Mac's saying that if you want to still download certain albums to your phone, do the following: " " And tell people how; clearly this affected a lot of people.

For months I have a similar problem as many of you. On top of that problem I keep getting a message - while syncing my iPhone to my iMac - that the Photos App database is not (yet) available. Consequently, my selected pictures do not appear in my iPhone. After applying some of your suggestions (eg, moving Photos Db back and forth) I was finally able to see my own pictures again today. Several other albums are still missing in my iPhone. Interestingly, the number of pictures in the Photos App (according to iTunes !!) has increased with the number of pictures that were finally synced today. That number - in iTunes - is still ridiculously low. I can see/watch all of my pictures in Photos - including the old iPhoto pictures - but iTunes (!!) can not access (?) or view (?) them. I do hope that Apple solves this weird sync problem.

Using an iMac 2011, iPhone 6 and all latest (operating) software including OS X El Capitan.

I have found 2 issues that may also play a role in the synchronisation problems of others:

1. There is a tick box in the Photos app that allows you to open the Photos app automatically when your device is connected to iTunes. Do NOT uncheck that tick box even though the automatic opening of Photos is annoying.

2. After conversion of the database, the hidden pictures in iPhoto may look unhidden in Photos but actually they are not. iTunes "sees" them but cannot access them despite being able to select these pics for syncing. Hence the nil (0) result when syncing these pics.

Can't sync with the new Photos app?
