New 2015 MacBook Pro - Kernel Panic since 10.10.3 update

Hi,

Since the 10.10.3 Yosemite update, I'm getting daily kernal panics as shown below on my new 2015 MBP Force Touch. Any ideas as to what's causing this and/or how to resolve?

Thanks,

Mike

Aha now we are getting somewhere. So from kanchenjunga103's comment I decided to run a quick test. I checked permissions, following my repair and displaypolicyd was fine. Then I rebooted and checked permissions immediately. Sure enough displaypolicyd permissions are broken. So there is something in the boot process that is setting those incorrectly.

That explains why you have continuous problems mj. I almost never reboot my computer, since it's in the office. Only for updates etc. I am still using HDMI with a Planar monitor and yes my computer is hooked up to power 24/7. I also use a virtualization software VMWare Fusion but I doubt that is related.

This is a related ticket that has a suggested hack to fix. Essentially making a script that repairs them each boot.

Permissions problem in displaypolicyd

I tried the other proposed solution in that thread , trashing the displaypolicyd folder, but I don't recommend it. On reboot my computer couldn't even detect my external monitor no matter what I tried.

my mac air is barely 2 weeks old and just had a similar kernel panic a short while ago. It occurred while trying to use virtualbox for the first time. I thought I was a fluke the first time, but it only occurs with virtualbox and can be repeated.

Good morning. My update. Crash this AM on wake from sleep.

In reading through the other thread on this issue, I deleted the folder displaypolicyd, which in my case did have a file inside (displaypolicyd.cache) and restarted. MBP wouldn't recognize any external monitor afterwards (even after reset of PRAM). So I restored the folder and monitor was again found.

Folllowed the suggestion in the other thread (below) and will let you know whether there's any progress.

brandonfisherman wrote:

I had the same problem yesterday on a 2014 Retina Macbook Pro: black screen on boot (boot progress bar would move to about 25% and then I would get the black screen), permissions problem in displaypolicyd even after repairing permissions multiple times, I even reinstalled Yosemite on top of my current system, but nothing helped.

Then I called Apple Care and they gave me the following procedure:

- Boot in single-user mode (cmd+S at boot)

- At the prompt, type the following commands:

mount -uw /

(press the return key)

cd /Library/Preferences

(press the return key)

mv com.apple.loginwindow.plist com.apple.loginwindow.plist.old

(press the return key)

reboot

(press the return key)

Voilà. If all goes well, your computer should reboot and take you to the login window. The problem seems to come from a corrupted com.apple.loginwindow.plist preference file. The above procedure will help you create a new one the next time your computer starts up.

Same here, sporadic crashes. I was very happy one day when I got back and it had survived the night, then I went for a short coffee break and guess what. I brought my laptop home for the weekend, and it has been asleep since friday and now it wont wake up while being disconnected from the monitor. Its just black but the keyboard responds. I think it is time send it back to Apple soon.
