New 2015 MacBook Pro - Kernel Panic since 10.10.3 update

Hi,

Since the 10.10.3 Yosemite update, I'm getting daily kernal panics as shown below on my new 2015 MBP Force Touch. Any ideas as to what's causing this and/or how to resolve?

Thanks,

Mike

So a week in and still no issues with the DVI connection. I think all these findings are somewhat consistent. The new Macs are probably running HDMI 2.0, which came in end of 2013. Older monitors are probably supporting HDMI 1.4 and while it is meant to be backwards compatible I guess it is possible there is some difference in the drivers. So it seems like the two solutions are get a new monitor or connect via DVI/VGA.

Exact same problem, and I am grateful that I am not alone. I have a brand new 2015 rMBP 13 inch (Yosemite 10.10.3) with two external ASUS 24 inch monitors attached, each through a DVI to Thunderbolt adapter. I originally had the problem with them attached via HDMI (one direct and one an adapter through Thunderbolt), and then I switched to DVI, with the same panic restarts after waking from sleep from one day up to three days, etc. Same panic diagnostic report as you all. Have done the permissions fix, and the issue returns eventually after waking from sleep. Help Apple . . . . .

May 17, 2015 8:55 PM in response to unifex007

Same issues for me: 2015 Macbook Pro 13.3" Retina, connected via HDMI (and before via Thunderbolt>DVI) to an Asus monitor. Wake from prolonged sleep causes a kernel panic, with a "BSD process name corresponding to current thread: displaypolicyd" listed in the crash log. And the same issue with displaypolicyd showing up in the permissions repair.

My Macbook Air 2012 was working fine, so this is related to this new model Macbook Pro.

I tried an OS X reinstall (not clean, however), and this did nothing. Maybe I'll try a Timemachine backup and clean install. Anyway, I called Apple and they were of no help, and suggested I take the computer into see a "genius." Fat chance that will help. Please fix this, Apple.

Jun 6, 2015 8:14 AM in response to spaceman79

I have the exact same problem. I have been sending the error reports to Apple. This is my first Mac and just when I thought Macs were more stable/reliable. I'm disappointed and not leaving me with a good impression. I'm trying out another Dell laptop right now also. If I have the same unreliability as Windows not sure I want to pay the premium for a Mac and just keep the Dell. Apple support please don't give me the run around. What's the problem here? I think it's the same problem after waking up with external monitor plugged in via HDMI.

Well did it again today. Going back to a Windows PC it looks like. Bummer I was really hoping to like the Apple Macbook. Seems overpriced with similar instability. I've been testing a Windows Laptop out side by side during this time and it's more stable so far and costs half as much. I'm seriously not troll and try to be impartial, but this is my honest experience.

I truly hope for all you Mac users that Apple is not straying from their core values. Otherwise you spent a lot of money for similar issues.

Adding another report to the conversation - coworker / friend recently stepped up from a 13" Air to the new 13" Retina MBP. She is also experiencing the panic-from-wake in the GPU driver, but only when attached to a non-Thunderbolt Cinema Display. The only time she experiences the panic is when she is attached to the crap Acer displays that our company bought a zillion of for other offices. Not once with the Thunderbolt display on her desk in our office, and not once with the Thunderbolt display she has at home.

Hopefully 10.10.4 patches whatever is going boom...

Aug 1, 2015 8:33 PM in response to mjoshea148

Saw same exact error beginning this morning. Was connected to an external 4k display via Thunderbolt 2 to DisplayPort, on Dell P2715Q. Kernel panics were seen when waking up. Also had issues where the Macbook Pro would be completely unresponsive, and would not even power on, without doing a PRAM reset. After I did the PRAM reset, and it would power on, I ran an online diagnostic. Diagnostic would return code "There may be an issue with the display: VFD002". I took the laptop to the Apple Store today. When I described the issue, the tech seemed VERY hesitant to even open up. I am thinking they have heard of or have seen this issue before. Was a whole unit swap. The laptop that the issues were being seen on was purchased on June 18th of this year. It is a Mid 2015 MBP w/ 2.5 Ghz CPU, and AMD graphics. We will see what happens with the replacement.
