How do you get OS X to use iPhoto on camera import instead of Photos?

Okay, have iPhoto 9.6.1 and can open iPhoto and all... but whenever I connect my camera to the computer to import photos, it always defaults to Photos. I want it to default to iPhoto. Is there a way to get it to stop using Photos by default? Can't rename or delete the Photos app. Have no Photos Library so I don't want to have to exit out of Photos and launch iPhoto every time I want to import new photos. I just want Photos to stay out of the picture entirely. Let iPhoto do what it used to do and stop trying to hijack everything.

Mac Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.1), / 5870 / LED Cinema Display

Easy peasy. Just go to iPhoto preferences/General and set iPhoto as default import by checking that "Connecting camera opens" "iPhoto" in the option box. Then delete the Photos library which has gobbled up a ton of your memory by duplicating your iPhoto library.

I never did, it automatically did it when the 10.10.3 update was installed. Magic happens.

Never seen that happen, first you have to go to iCloud preferences to activate the iCloud Library, then start Photos and choose to migrate the library, all that happening automatically is in the realm of Magic indeed, except I don't believe in Magic.

pmiles - I agree. Exactly my point is that Apple thinks it knows best when introducing new software as Photos. They never bother to ask if you want to migrate and we end up with a discussion group like this having circular arguments that would never have started if Apple had a little more understanding of how users want to run their systems whether technically inferior or otherwise.

I'll just disbelieve you then, I have upgraded 4 Macs so far, none of them did it automatically, so if you did not turn the iCloud Photo Library on someone else did.

Please direct me to the KB that says migration to the cloud happens automatically, I would love to see that.

I can't add anything that hasn't already been mentioned. léonie is far more familiar with GPS issues than I as I don't use them much. The negative long and lat is a bug and Apple has to fix it. Make sure you've reported it to Apple via https://www.apple.com/feedback/photos.html so they are aware that many users are experiencing the problem, i.e. the squeaky wheel effect.
