Sound Keeps cutting out, and it gets weirder

Ok this is weird. But my Mac Pro has been solid since I got it. I've been using computers for nearly 25 years now, and I've never seen memory affect sound, but here goes.

I installled 2gb of new memory ... Kingston Fully buffered 1gb chips, reviews all said work great with mac pro. I am using a Motu 828 Mk II. Well since the new memory, my sound keeps cutting off every once in a while. The computer still recognizes the Motu as the sound device (through firewire), but no sound, and I have to reboot to get it back.

Has anyone had experience with the Motu (which didn't do this for the entire first month until memory) cutting out on the mac pro after a while, or does anyone know of a problem with sound cutting out on Mac Pros? Memory causing sound to stop (extremely weird)?

Thanks

I just got through to MOTU tech support and they had me cycle through the Optical Inputs on the MOTU Audio setup for the 828. So it's not on the General tab, but the 828 tab, cycle the Optical inputand output from none, to ADAT and then back to None. This seems to work for now. I will test more thoroughly and report back what I find

I did that, during my first tests two weeks ago, and I didn't see any difference.

I used this hint (disable and enable ADAT) a few monthes ago when the interface had curious sound : there was a difference between ADAT status in Audio MIDI setup and on the MOTU console.

But, with sound lost bug on the Mac Pro, disable ADAT changes nothing, as far as I know.

I am reporting back to you that the solution of changing the optical inputs and outputs did not solve my problem... for that matter it took a couple reboots of both the CPU and the MOTU 828 to get it back..... fustrating... back to square one. I will call MOTU again tomorrow afternoon.

BTW, the problem also exists with a new traveler that I borrowed from a friend

I too am having problems with sound dropping out after a short while / after pausing / after leaving applications. I am using a MOTU Traveler FW interface on a MacPro 2.66 / 4GB RAM (oem) and it's VERY frustrating. MOTU points the finger at Apple who points it back at them...

I've tried it on different FW connectors, bus-powered, AC-powered, pretty much anything I could think of. What is MOST puzzling is it worked GREAT on my MacBook Pro and previous G5.

I wanted to talk about that, but I forgot...

I tried to reach UnicorNation. The FAQ says that it's no necessary to be registered to read, but it's not true. So I tried to register. And never received the confirmation mail. I tried to register with another name and mail. And never received the confirmation mail. I wrote to mails to the admin, explaining the problem and telling why it was important to read the post when one has a Mac Pro and a MOTU FW. No answer...

So I can't learn more about the problem in this forum linked by MOTU...
