Sound Keeps cutting out, and it gets weirder

Ok this is weird. But my Mac Pro has been solid since I got it. I've been using computers for nearly 25 years now, and I've never seen memory affect sound, but here goes.

I installled 2gb of new memory ... Kingston Fully buffered 1gb chips, reviews all said work great with mac pro. I am using a Motu 828 Mk II. Well since the new memory, my sound keeps cutting off every once in a while. The computer still recognizes the Motu as the sound device (through firewire), but no sound, and I have to reboot to get it back.

Has anyone had experience with the Motu (which didn't do this for the entire first month until memory) cutting out on the mac pro after a while, or does anyone know of a problem with sound cutting out on Mac Pros? Memory causing sound to stop (extremely weird)?

Thanks

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I've had lengthy discussions with Apple and MOTU. In previous discussions with MOTU, they blamed Apple's Firewire ports. Now, it seems that MOTU is definitely aware of the driver issue(s)and working on a solution. Apple is firmly digging in their heals that this is a driver issue ... and is the responsibility of the third party hardware developer (MOTU) to design a driver to be compatible with Apple's Intel driven computers. MOTU has recently released a new driver for their UltraLite. So, now, users of their other hardware components have to wait .... and wait. I'm hopeful. But, my patience is running thin.

Thanks for your input, however, most of us I believe are desiring to use a USB device that allows the connection of XLR or balanced/unbalanced line in/outs and recognized by most multitrack HD audio software.

The Xmod, while connecting via USB, doesn't have this functionality unless I am mistaken. are you able to record and playback with ease in Logic or Cubase?

So far so good for me (knock on virtual wood). Haven't noticed any drop outs. I tried things that would normally kill the sound like not playing audio for a while or plugging in a Firewire peripheral. So far so good... Still going to test for the next couple days. Keeping my fingers crossed.

YEA!!!! So far so good, I would recommend running the uninstaller first, but so far so good. Just ran FCP with no problems, a VERY good sign. Itunes never sounded better, no glitches or pops as per the norm as it was before this diver update. Oh yea, did I not say this was a driver issue? I am sure I was not the only one thinking driver issue, but that was the first thought I had when I bought the 828 nearly 4 months ago! All working well for once, Motu back on top! That is until Leopard is released! AAAAHHHHHHH!

Hey guys!

good to hear its not just me having trouble with the Motu 828mkII. It worked perfectly with my G4 powerbook for over a year, but my new powermac just wont recognize it. If I completely unplug both the motu and the mac for 15 minutes it gets recognized, but crashes as soon as i stop playing music in itunes. logic crashed several times and I am not willing to lose data because motu is unable to program a functioning driver (I have the newest one installed).
I have really gotten used to my motu and dident want to change it for a while, but if they dont come up with a solution double time its going on ebay. After spending that kind of money on a new machine, i expect everything to work perfectly.

hey y'all,

I'm quite a noob here, but I have this same stupid problem, and it just got way worse. Where is the fix

I'm on a mac G-5, 1.8 dual, logic 7(not updated) and of course the fabulous 828 II that worked fine until yesterday. I did figure out that it was not Logic, not the Mac and all fingers pointed to the 828. It's awesome to find anyone at all with the same problem. I feel connected!!!

Now where do I find out more about a new driver to fix this?

thx
