What’s the best way to download Aperture 3.6?

I am having a lot of problems accessing old libraries of photos. What is the best way to obtain Aperture 3.6?

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

3.0 was the last disc version I am aware of, You can find a disc version of

aperture 3.0 on ebay and elsewhere for a reasonable price if you want to go that route.

But you have to upgrade to a later version like 3.4.5 to use it on Mountain Lion.

Ironically I was able to install aperture 3.0 on my mountain lion mac but it was greyed out once

installed. Software update via our friendly app store didn't offer any updates for aperture 3.0

but as posted elsewhere in this thread there is an update available via apple.

Once updated software update produced an additional patch for raw image compatibility.

Cheers

Umm... not sure how that would work. So if there is an update "available via Apple" - but not available "via our friendly App Store" - where would I get it? Maybe I'm missing something, but I've gone back through this thread, and it's not obvious to me how I would upgrade the disk version.

I'm still trying to guess which will have the longest useful life for me, Lightroom v.6 or Aperture 3.something. I have Elements for more intensive 'Photoshopping' - my main interest right now is sorting the dump from my camera's SD card (RAW), picking out the shots with the most potential, cataloging, keywords, organization, captions/descriptions, etc.

An investment of $100-150 plus 5 or 6 weeks figuring out how it works, is not trivial, so the worst case scenario for me would be to buy either Aperture or Lightroom - and then discover weeks later that I shouda bought the other one, and I need to start over.

True enough.

You should be looking at Photos to see if it provides what you need.

I am, looking at Photos, and so far, I'm not impressed. I was hoping to move UP from iPhoto, but from what I can determine, Photos is a parallel move, at best. I expect improvements will be added later, so one day Photos might be an option for me, but not yet.

Right now, I'm thinking Aperture is probably better able to do what I want, which is:

- look at a bunch of images on my camera's SD card and sort out the keepers from the crap,

- rename the images with meaningful file names,

- write descriptions and assign keywords,

- sort and batch photos for various projects - books (Blurb), slideshows (Fotomagico or iMovie), or uploading to SmugMug, etc.

Finally, Photos requires Yosemite, right? A lot of other software I use will not yet run on Yosemite, so I'm sticking with Mountain Lion for now.

Phew!

I am so relieved that this worked. I thought I was really out of luck, having purchased all major versions of Aperture on disk. But fortunately, I had updated Aperture through the App store at least once, so it showed up in My Purchases. The only variation for me is that it said OPEN. And of course, nothing happens when you clicked on that button. It wasn't enough to move Aperture to my external HD. I had to back it up on a flash drive and totally delete it from my system, before the status became INSTALL. But install it did, and now I have been able to launch Aperture 3.6 on Yosemite. What a crazy hoop to have to jump through!
