actually, this may be specifically a problem while using adobe illustrator to open files.
Same problem here (really annoyed), I can only see the names of the files but all other columns are gone. Seriously Apple, I already swapped my macbook for a Surface Pro 3, should I do the same with my MacPro?
Hi Bickity, Any luck fixing this problem yet? I'm having the same problem with my file open column view in CS6 running on OS10.10.4 Deleting the illustrator prefs fixes the problem and gets the column view working properly again but it only lasts a couple of hours, then without warning it reverts back to the same crap where I can't scroll across and it half hides my file view so can't see modified dates etc.

Had the same problem, I don't know why. Right click on the blank space where there is no preview > Show view options > check the show preview column
