"Now playing" has stopped working with iOS 8.3

Since the update to 8.3 the "now playing" feature no longer shows when I restart the music app. Before, when I closed the app it used to retain the last played track when I reopen it but now it just defaults to "playlists". This is extremely irritating as I have to keep manually selecting the track I was playing before.

Anyone else noticed this problem?

I'm having the same issue and it also happens when I use the sleep feature. Before, if I came back to the music app, it showed the last song playing but now it doesn't even have me in the same playlist and there is no "now playing" feature.

I have exactly the same issue. It is so annoying when I'm listening to an album on my way to work and when I'm on my way home it has reverted back to playlists thus meaning I have to scroll through to find the album I was listening to. It is the same when listening on shuffle, if I close the app then It revert backs to playlists. Before the last update this did not happen and it is very frustrating. Will there be a fix for this?

Same problem. It seems to be fairly universal, though many people don't listen to their music in such a way as to notice it.

Odds are it's just a broken string of code somewhere that purges the app's cache or other form of offline memory when it closes, resulting in a loss of both "Now Playing" track and therefor playback position within any playlist or album. Dumb glitch, hopefully patched up nd just bundled with the 8.4 release if not sooner.

It's just incredibly annoying. I just installed a nice new stereo in my car with bluetooth that knew to automatically sync to my phone and just start playing my last opened mix any time I got behind the wheel, and now I have to manually go in to make sure it doesn't start up something bizarre when I drive off first thing in the morning. Problem? No. But a minor annoyance every single time I drive, when once there was beautiful, "It just works," simplicity.

Just FYI to everyone, the 8.4 update does not fix this issue. I used my iPod (which I don't use as much anymore) as a guinea pig and when you close the app and try to start your song again from the control center, it shuffles to a new song. If you open the app and go to "Now Playing," it will show that the shuffle option is turned on although you didn't turn it on. It's just on by default now. There's no way to turn it off. I'm so disappointed that this wasn't fixed with the new update. Not updating my iPhone until this is fixed.

I am extremely disappointed about this. This latest update did not, as I had hoped, fix the problem of remembering what the last song was from the last time the app was opened. It did completely revamp the entire appearance of the music app and I don't see that as an improvement either. I'm not interested in iTunes radio. I don't listen to the radio anymore. Why? Because I got an iPhone and, until an update ago, I could listen to music I like and not have to pay attention to music I'm not interested in. Like many of you on this thread, I have thousands of songs on my phone. Not having to remember which song myself was one of the features I liked about the iPhone music app. How exactly do we make our complaints to Apple? When I click on the "Contact Us" option, it just sends me right to the community support page. That's great, Apple, but I'd much rather send you an email that tells you that I'm completely dissatisfied with your most recent software update. I guess we'll just have to keep posting comments and hope that someone at Apple notices.

Another FYI, the 8.4.1 update does not fix this issue. Either Apple has done this auto shuffle thing on purpose, aren't aware that it's happening, or simply don't care. I don't think I've made it through an entire playlist in months. I have too many songs on my phone to remember exactly where I left off every time, and I don't like leaving my music app open 24 hours a day. How annoying 😠.

I think I have the answer. As with everything with Apple, they can't let alone be. I had no problems with the old music app, it's functioned flawlessly. Then I get a new iPhone 6 and everything is crazy crazy crazy. Apple is supposed to be user-friendly and they need to start simplifying things. This new music app is just ridiculously complicated and anything but user-friendly and intuitive. Anyway, the now playing is not an option anymore, but look at the very bottom and you're actually see the song that's playing. Tap that and the screen that everyone is used to will now appear. The song that's playing, fast-forward, next song, the familiar screen that you're looking for can only be accessed by tapping that at the bottom.

That doesn't fix it! The problem isn't that "now playing" doesn't exist, it does when you're in the app, it's that when you shut down the app (as I am in the habit of doing to save battery) when you reopen it the now playing bar / last song you were playing has disappeared! So you need to start your playlist / album or whatever again. Bl**dy annoying!!! Come on, there must be a solution by now???
