No Mail Sounds After 10.10.3 Update

My Mail 8.2 is no longer playing sounds. I've deselected Play Sounds and New Message Sound, quit and restarted Mail, reselected Sounds, restarted Mail. I've repaired permissions, power cycled computer, trashed Mail preferences plist, etc. and no change.

In Mail Preferences when I select a New Messages Sound, the verification sound will play, but it doesn't play when it's supposed to.

When logged in as Guest, Mail sounds will play, but not for about 20 seconds after the action.

Did you try deleting the com.apple.systempreferences.plist?

Thanks for the info. Are you saying that when you toggle your Do Not Disturb off then back on you get your Mail sounds back?

Unfortunately for me, whenever my Do Not Disturb is on there won't be Mail sounds. When I turn it off, sounds return.

There is no "all on OFF" with Do Not Disturb. The Do Not Disturb setting is one item controlled by a toggle switch. It's either on or off.

Activate Notifications and pull down window pane to expose the Do Not Disturb control at the top. With the toggle in the OFF setting, check your Mail sounds.

I worked off list with duopshebop and we were able to get her sound back. Since we did several things it's unclear exactly what fixed the problem so I'll mention the fixes we did that resulted in sound back.

1) Removed LogMeIn Sound driver.

2) Removed Boom.app. This proved to be difficult. If you can open Boom Preferences, select the Gear (preferences) click on the Uninstall Boom2 at the bottom. User did not have this option so we had to manually find all the parts to remove.

If memory serves, these are the files we deleted.

In User's Library/Preferences look for these two plist files. You need to quit first in Activity Monitor.

Library/Preferences/com.globaldelight.Boom2.plist

Preferences/com.globaldelight.Boom2Daemon.plist

In /Library/Extensions delete Boom2Device.kext (old instructions this file was in System/Library/Extensions

Delete Boom.app in Applications.

Restart Mac
Delete trash
Test for Mail sounds

Turning Do Not Disturb off in Notifications solved the problem of no sound when sending mail. And, surprisingly, turning Do Not Disturbback on left the email working fine. Thanks for your help.

Turning off notifications solved the problem for me too but only after I've quit an reopened mail :-)

Turning Do Not Disturb off in Notifications solved the problem of no sound in Mail.app EXCEPT IN ONE INSTANCE:

When I first launch Mail and it goes out and fetches all new mail since the last launch, it does not give me the new mail sound. After that, (while it is still running) ALL sounds work (including subsequent fetches).

Test this and let me know:

[1] Send yourself a message

[2] Quit Mail before it auto-fetches it.

[3] Wait 5 seconds for the message to route

[4] Re-launch mail

Result - for me: no new mail sound. Again, AFTER the initial fetch everything works great, BUT ON THE INITIAL FETCH AFTER LAUNCHING Mail I get no new mail sound (if there is mail to fetch).

I can confirm that there is no sound when Mail is first launched for received mail. I suspect this by design.
