FaceTime slow on loading after updating to Yosemite 10.10.3.

I noticed FaceTime bounces on the dock for about 30 secs when loading. this started after upgrading to Yosemite 10.10.3 a few days ago and the delay is quite annoying especially when receiving calls. Any similar situations and possible solutions please.

I had that issue about a week ago on a Sunday and I called Apple.

I am on 10.10.3

After a few hours in an Apple Session we tabled the issue and I waited to hear back.

Had time again last night to try to tackle it again with the folks on line with a Session key.

After two different attempts and 2 Level 2 support folks, I put my thinking hat on.

Calling again last night and "starting over" with a new Level 2 Support... I led him along the path with the problem and we finally (well mostly me......) finally identified the problem. We did do the google account removal and reapply as well - that dd not fix my problem.

We isolated the problem to having 10,147 contacts. We proved when I disabled the iCloud contact syncs, FaceTime worked. As I only use 4 contacts or so in FaceTime, it seems when FaceTime boots up, it preloads (or at least tries to) load all 10,147 contacts. This method makes it easy to type in a name to find their FaceTime info so you can load them into your FaceTime contacts.

Unfortunately, there is no way to disable association with all the contacts.

Unfortunately, you can not "just use your four contacts" alone. FaceTime always associates with all contacts.

So.. at this point in time, FaceTime does not work unless I disable contact syncing, they whole point of having an Apple Macbook Air and a 5S.

Anxiously awaiting to hear back from Apple.

Yes I guess I would be a beta tester for you folks. I think I know enough now on the problem to assist you folks.

After two different attempts and 2 Level 2 support folks, I ...... put my thinking hat on.

Calling again last night (the third Session Key) and "starting over" with a new Level 2 Support... I led him along the path with the problem and we finally (well mostly me......) finally identified the problem. We did do the google account removal and reapply as well - that dd not fix my problem.

We proved when I disabled the iCloud contact sync, and removed the contacts in Contacts (Addressbook), FaceTime worked. I believe Facetime "remembers" the 4 contacts I use for Facebook so I was good there. As I only use 4 contacts or so in FaceTime, it seems when FaceTime boots up, it preloads (or at least tries to) load all 10,147 contacts.

This method makes it easy to type in a name to find their FaceTime info so you can load them into your FaceTime contacts.

I think..... that Facebook has a time out feature that bounces until it times out. It should bounce until it loads all the contacts.

Simple to fix, just change the bounce criteria from a timed / timeout criteria of 132 seconds to a question of "Are you still loading? - Yes / No".

If Yes, then keep loading and bouncing. If No, then load the program.

If all contacts are loaded, then complete the load of the program.

Unfortunately, there is no way to disable Facebook association with all the contacts.

Unfortunately, you can not "just use your four contacts" alone.

FaceTime seems to always associates with all my contacts.

Checking again last night..... I proved this out with the Video/Audio tab in FaceTime.

While Video only displayed the folks I did FaceTime with, the Audio tab showed all 10,147 contacts.

So.. at this point in time, FaceTime does not work unless I disable contact syncing, they whole point of purchasing an Apple Macbook Air and a 5S.

Interesting Note, my wife has the identical setup and hers works perfect. She has 50 contacts.

Investigating deeper there is no published limit to the "Contacts" that I could find.

OK, I will "try" to tell what we did...

I do not feel that I left anything out but... I am sure I did.

Use this as a guide not as 100% right.

First we created a new user then tried to use Facetime

It worked

Then we went back to my user name and unlinked contacts from iCloud

Then deleted the contents entire address book in my user name

Then removed the files seen here http://electronicinstrument.com/appnotes/frank.png to the trash can.

Used Library to find them, you know how...

Then turned on the link in iCloud for contacts to download all 10,161 contacts, waited the time they batch load 100 at a time...

I would check carefully to make sure you have the right ones selected. CAREFUL

Then reboot.

Worked.

I am sure that I missed something but.. in my case that was what worked.

Good luck!

Glad it worked for you. Concerned here as although I followed the guy from Apple... I don't consider myself a programmer any more. Screen shots are my path for learning now along with u-tube.

One of the BIG values that I see in Apple is their "paid-for" support through AppleCare. I never had that experience offered by the big box stores and never called Microsoft for answers. I am not sure if everyone uses Apple for that but that is what I do. So.. I pay for it.

I used to replace a computer each year because I work around the clock, from 4:30am to 9:30pm and "just burn them out".

Apple is much better with my computers lasting me more then 2 years. To me that is the value. But... now with 2 of them and 2, 5S's, I am committed to them so... I lean on them more and more.

My fear though is that we (Apple) are putting out new versions too soon. I had no problems with versions before 10.10.x.

Yes, lets hope these are the final fix.

Again..... thanks to folks like Josh to commit to working with us. That is why I pay more for Apple products. Keep them coming guys.

For me I use an app called EasyFind to look for anything on my Mac and I used it to find the files as listed by Frank. facetime and messages worked perfectly but eventually I disabled my yahoo and Gmail contacts while I use on iCloud contacts and so far FaceTime and messages take about 2 seconds to launch as compared to 30 seconds previously.
