iMessage and Facetime not working in 8.3 (iPad 3 Wifi)

After updating to iOS 8.3 iMessage and Facetime is no longer working. iMessage receives messages now and then but is extremely unresponsive, often crashes, and usually only the last message shows. Some of the older ones show at times, but most seems gone. The Messages and Facetime tab in Settings also are extremely unresponsive..takes about half a minute to open. Usually, but not always, I'm told to log on with my Apple ID, which it won't do.

I tried calling my iPad with Facetime. Nothing. Half an hour later it suddenly rang once...

Apps closed, iPad restarted several times to no avail.

Update: I did a factory reset / restore from backup. Failure. Everything is identical. iMessage inoperable, all attempts to delete messages fail and they come right back on reboot. Will show received texts, but cannot send. It hangs up in the sending process. iMessage app crashes most of the time. I have rebooted a hundred times. This iPad never had a problem in its life, never, until I updated to IOS 8.3. It appears to be completely unsolvable. (Like I said in my previous post, the wifi in my iPhone stopped working a long time ago, so the iPad is how I communicate on wifi. This is not a wifi issue, it is specific to iMessage and FaceTime. iOS 6 worked perfectly! (iPad2 wifi, iPhone 4S)

Has this thread got two separate issues?

A) those who have had iMessage working and now no longer have it (since loading iOS8.3 ?) but are able to get into it (and read old messages?)

B) those that can't even sign into iMessage as their Apple IDs won't verify (so can't witch it off as they can't even get in)

I have no experience with (A) but some with (B) along with a lot of others. There are other threads if you want to get into the detail but here is the best advice so far for those with the (B) problem

1) make sure you have internet

2) make sure your time settings is not too far adrift (emerald sequoia free app will tell you) and try and adjust to get close to real time.

3) call or go online to apple support and go up the chain - explain that it is an AppleID validation problem (if you don't have AppleCare then that should wave the cost) - get the problem referred to engineering

4) keep trying (daily) to get in

5) don't expect Apple to get back to you to say it's fixed

6) if it persists then join the discussion in the main thread (47000 views must indicate something is up!)

Same problems here too. Connection-wise there's no problem with the wifi connection, only with the iPad's iMessage connection. It's very flaky. It will both send and receive, but may receive messages the next day etc. My biggest problem though is with the apps unresponsiveness, crashing and most of all....message history. Some times it will only show the last message, some times for a couple of days....but never more than that. There's a couple of years of message history that is gone as of now...

Is anyone from Apple looking into this problem? I have an iPad Air 2 and have been experiencing the same problem with iMessage and Facetime not working since updating to iOS 8.3. I consider myself tech savvy, and totally frustrated trying to solve this problem. I have tried just about everything Apple Techs have suggested to resolve the problem: from signing out of my apple account, hard re-boot, restore from backup, and just last night I wiped my iPad and those apps are not working. My iPad is just a few months old...tomorrow I'm taking it back to the Apple store! I will demand a replacement!

I just purchased an Ipad 3 Mini, and I must say I am very disappointed as well. The iMessage and Facetime will not sign in. I have done everything that is listed on the internet, all forums, etc. and still nothing. I updated to the iOS 8.3 before I did anything. I have been an Android user in the past, and this problem does not convince me at this point to move over to Apple. I am so incredibly disappointed that no one can get this resolved, but rather they want to blame my network, etc. My network is just fine. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

My Mother in Law just bought a used Ipad 2 off of woot and I'm helping her set it up. After telling her how I like Apple's small electronics because "They just work," we're dealing with this. It's a ipad 2 with cell option, but no sim and no service setup. (Side note, should be able to disable cell/sim by a switch, but nope). Her apple ID is working for every other function except imessage and facetime. Her device is on iOS8.3, as is my Iphone 5 and my wife's 6. They work, this ONE device does not. My wife's Ipad 2 (not cellular version) doesn't have the issue and works just fine. On the MiL's Ipad 2, we hit Settings > Messages > enter her login information and it appears to move forward and advise (greyed out) "you will use the following for answering calls." However, once we click next, it signs back out. I can see "iCloud" "blink" at the same time. Help us out Apple, this is some Android level crap.

lancasterbam,

Please go to the thread below, and you will see it is a known issue with "apple servers" as I was told by an Apple Representative. They told me to expect to wait for two weeks, and they are resolving it by Apple User ID one-by-one. They said you could have three Apple devices, and the other two could work just fine. If you have this issue, NONE of the answers or fixes on the internet will help you resolve the issue. You need to go ahead and contact Apple Support and let them know you have this issue. The first person you get will have to escalate you to a Senior Representative, that will put your request in to their Apple Engineers to resolve it. The only thing I can offer you is that you are not alone, and they are working to resolve the issue. This is my FIRST Apple purchase, so you can imagine how I feel regarding the "They just work" that I got from so many of my friends as well. Here is the link to the other forum on the current issue:

facetime will not work since downloading ios8.3

I will keep members of the forum posted regarding any resolution I may receive, hopefully soon.
