Clicking on the red dot actually quit my apps

hello everyone

I'm fairly new to the mac (one month) . (I'm on Yosemite MBP retina 13 mid 2014)

whenever I close an app by clicking the red dot it close the window, I understand this is how mac works, and i like it like that.

but i've noticed today that when I'm on safari and i click the red dot, it closes the window, there is still that little dot below the app on the dock to show me that the app didn't quit, but when I click on the app to open it, it show my favorite tab, so all of my tabs are gone/ i tried with chrome, same thing/ the app store same thing.

It basically close the window and when I open it, it starts fresh, it wasn't doing that. it used to open my apps as I left them off.

Please help me, I read countless of forums and all without the solution

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

Hi Roger,

I have exactly the same issue with all the apps. They quit, and though the dot stays in the dock, the work in progress is gone. I'm using Outlook, and clicking the red dot actually closes the app.

in Lightroom, clicking on the red dot quits the app completely and i have to restart it.

As you said, minimising on orange dot works fine.

Strange, but this only started on 30 May. Prior to that, it worked fine....
