iPhoto has a circle with a line through it. I cannot access my pics.

I drag it down to the trash barrel the word TRASH comes up as normal when I am over it. I let go and nothing happens. I check in my Apps folder and there the little sod is.

Select iPhoto in the Applications folder and press command-delete ⌘⌫

Do you get an error message?

You can't actually 'Select' the item in Apps folder. As soon as you click it the folder closes. .

I have to go and do some work now. I will get back onto this discussion as soon as I can but thanks to you and to Terence for your help so far.

How are you trying to select? Have you changed the settings for your Mouse or Trackpad, that a simply click is a double-click?

I can click any app in Applications to select it or to use "File > Get Info" on it.

You can also try to uninstall the old iPhoto from LaunchPad. Hold down on iPhoto on the LaunchPad until it wiggles and the "x" is showing at a corner of the icon. Then click the "x" to uninstall.

Hi Leonie, Ref your last post. i have not changed any preferences on my track pad or mouse. In fact when I opened them in preferences there was no facility to change the click at all. And I still cannot select an icon in my Apps folder. However, the good news is I was able to delete the iPhoto crossed out icon by using the Launchpad method you suggested. I was then able to install iPhoto from the 'Purchases' on th Apps store. So enormous thanks for that.

Hi Terence, don't know if you saw my latest post. I have now been able install iPhoto again. As far as I can see it is identical to the version I had so don't honestly know where Apple was coming from on this. Anyway many thanks for your help.

That's where Apple were coming from on this...

I can se that now but it is still unclear why they would tell you that your current App wouldn't work with the new OS and you needed the updated version and then after all the Faffing about let you use the original version anyway.

It's not the original. It has been altered to allow it to run.

Great, my problem was that though I have Photos and everything on Yosemite is up to date, the iPhotos withe the circle and line through still showed in the Applications. But when I went in via Launchpad and hovered until they wiggled I was able to delete iPhotos completely and the need to Update which kept showing disappeared immediately. Perfect thank you
