FCPX 10.2 identifies C100mkII AVCHD as interlaced

When I import Canon C100mkII media FCPX 10.2 identifies the clips as 29.97i - but they don't look interlaced. When I set the project to assume the properties of the fist clip, the project has a frame rate of 29.97i. Is this an issue with FCPX or with Canon internal CODEC? Does anyone else notice this? The media doesn't look interlaced, and the setting I chose in the C100mkII menu is AVCHD, 24Mb/s 1920 x 1080, 29.97p.

Thanks for any help - Stephen

As Meg said 60i is common (but very poor nomenclature) used for 29.97fps interlaced media. It should be never written as 59.94i, let alone as 60i, but as you say Sony's being clinging to it for years.

The C100 30p material does not look interlaced, but it's two identical fields in an interlaced format. You will not see any interlacing. It is a poor format that should be avoided. It basically has half the resolution repeated. It is not a true 30fps format. It doesn't have the benefit of a true 30fps format that has a complete video frame every 29.97th of second, nor the motion resolution of a true interlaced format displayed on a TV set.

FCPX 10.2.1

Hi Tom, I need to export a project (1080pHD) with several video clips (all 1080pHD) and several FCPX Title Slides... export out of FCPX 10.2.1 to DVCPRO 50 (720/480) for broadcast on a TV station. I've done so, but the result has extreme loss of clarity and high pixelation. I realize I downgrading to SD from HD. The TV station's lead has informed me that he believes that I need to make the opposite field dominant. FCPX 10.1 allowed this in one fell swoop at the project level. 10.2.1 doesn't seem to have this option, and instead will have to change each video file individually. I'm not too worried about that though. What about the Title Slides? They are not video and therefore do not even have a field dominance to change.

Thanks Tom
