How do you use Ducker?

I see in the help section that there is in fact a Ducker in 10.1.1 but it only works in output and aux. I can't get it in either. I really need ducking our side chain compression and I can't seem to figure it out. All the tutorials on youtube are outdated

Matt,

I think it's something to do with the strip you are selecting and how you have setup your mixing....

So.... as a quick troubleshoot...

Can you please try the following... exactly as described below..

Create a new brand Project and create a stereo Audio track

Select the Audio track strip, click the send button and create an Aux on Bus 1

Now Opt + Left Click on the Audio FX button in the Aux Strip.... and see if under Legacy, Ducker now appears....

Bizarre, a bit like an "Easter Egg" on a DVD that I can't seem to unlock...!

Well, there are a few more of these..

For example...

Opt Left Click on the Settings button in a Software Instrument channel strip and you will find a bunch of different Strip FX patches will appear... These you can use without affecting the original Software Instrument inserted into that Strip...(Unlike when you just click on the Setting Button for a strip) You can also do the same for an Audio track...

Opt Left Click on the Instrument button in a Software Instrument Track and you will find a Legacy section there.. with older presets from years gone by 🙂

Opt Left Click on the Catch Playhead button at the top left of the arrange window.. and you will get a pop up window with a little more detail on the exact version of LPX you are using...

I have to say I was intrigued by the whole concept of "Ducker" as I've never heard of it,

Very common classic (=invented before most of us were born) audio tool, actually. You can hear it in many productions (radio, TV, film) with at least music + voiceover in the soundtrack. Basically it functions as an "automatic fader": the voice triggers the music to drop in volume.
