Aperture Not Working After Updating to OS 10.10.3

I have updated to the latest version of the OS and my legitimate copy of Aperture has been inoperable since the update. Apple has sent an email to everyone with a registered copy of Aperture stating that it still will work after the update but that is not the case. I feel lied to and I have about 200,000 photos across 7 Aperture libraries and this new "Photos" app lacks the professional tools that I need. I was going to transition to other options but I didn't feel the need to right away since they said it would be fine.

Is there some update patch I am missing? I would like to think they didn't abandon the few of us that use it and love the program for what it was. (See images below.)

What is your current Aperture version?

Shortly before the Mac OS X 10.10.3 update, Apple released the compatibility update to Aperture 3.6., that you need to install.

If your current Aperture version is Aperture 3.5.1,Aperture should be showing at the AppStore on your Purchases tab. If you are seeing Aperture there, move your crossed out Aperture application from the Applications folder to the Trash (but do not empty the Trash).

Then try to download and install Aperture from the Purchases tab of the AppStore.

Leonie

hope you can help- like others I can no longer open Aperture version 3 after purchasing a new iMac with Yosemite 10-10-5 installed.

I originally purchased Aperture 3 May 2010.

I can see update in App store but it won't respond - message "Bought by a diff user or the item was refunded/ cancelled" which it wasn't.

Aperture is not listed in my Purchases.

When I follow your instructions to unhide purchases I dont get an 'Unhide" option in my App account page. Only info I see is

Apple Id Summary: Appple ID

Payment Info

Bill address

Country/ Region

Manage : Nickname

Reset all warnings

DONE

Can you offer any advice please

That is typical if you bought Aperture as the boxed retail version or bought a license key to unlock the trial version. Then Aperture is not associated with your AppleID at the AppStore.

You need the help of the AppStore Support to send you a redeem code so you can download Aperture from the App Store.

Contact the App Store Support - use the link in the Quick Links on the main AppStore pane. You will have to be very insistent to get help. There is nothing you can do about it without Apple Support helping you to change your license to an App Store license.

Hi léonie,

I was wondering if you may have some suggestions for an issue I have been trying to sort out. I have just purchased a new refurbished iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Mid 2015) running OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.5. I would like to install Aperture 3 on my new iMac so that I can maintain the folder sorting of my photo library that I have pulled from my old iMac (it was running Aperture 2.4.1 which became unusable when I updated to the latest operating system on my old iMac).

I've read that Aperture 3 will not work on 10.10... from your experiences is this true? If I also installed the updates would it then work with the OS I'm running?

My only goal is to be able to upload my existing sorted photo library generated from my old iMac (without black bars across each photo) and export them in their sorted folders to an external hard drive. Once i successfully do this I plan on running Lightroom for all my photography needs since Apple has dropped Aperture.

I hope I've explained things sufficiently... Thanks in advance!

Susanne

ps.. hopefully it's ok that I jumped in the middle of this thread as I thought it seems kind relevant.

Is it true Apple have discontinued Aperture ? It is no longer available anywhere ? it is impossible to contact Apple regarding the issue. I am a professional photographer and have been happy with Aperture, I have Lightroom but find it far too complicated. I am so angry at Apples lack of contact availability and apparent discontinuation of Aperture without consideration for those using it. The new Sierra 10.12 certainly does not accept it !

I believe Aperture 3 is it for Aperture - I don't know how many upgrades Aperture 3 has.

I've been dealing with this issue for some time and it's hard to not get frustrated.... My old iMac was updated to Mtn Lion some time ago and that's when the issues with Aperture started. I recently decided to purchase a new (refurbished) iMac and my goal was to move my Aperture library over (keeping the sorted folders)... thought this would be easy and unfortunately I keep running into road blocks. I've been in contact with Apple for assistance and get many answers. One direction is to install Aperture 3 on my new computer and transfer the extracted Aperture library to the new.. then export the sorted files containing my photos. If I don't install Aperture on my new computer I loose all my folder / sorting info and just import 1000's of photos sorted by i'm guessing date/file name.

I've finally found Aperture 3 for sale in the US on Amazon... however in the description it states it will not work with OS 10.10... which is what my new iMac is running.... So I'm wondering if I was to also locate the Aperture updates... and installed them ... would Aperture 3 function? I only want to use it for as long as it takes to export my folder of photos and that would be it. I've decided to use Lightroom for my photography needs and I'm pretty disappointed with how Apple has dealt with this issue and has apparently left many of us hanging.

So I'm hoping to find some assistance here and thought this thread may have them...Léonie you seem to be the person to ask... so I'm hoping you'll have some advice. I would like to start using my iMac for my photography again.
