I was able to fix this by downloading the update from Apple Support, opening the package file with Pacifist, selecting the top-level item, and hitting the Install button. Pacifist installed it perfectly, and the update notices disappeared.

I'm not sure what the problem was, but I noticed that the update contained Application Support files for Compressor that Apple's Installer did not install. In fact, the Installer removed the Compressor folder when I created one!

I think maybe Apple got all the file and folder permissions wrong too, because after installing with either the Apple Installer or Pacifist, Disk Utility had a lot of permissions clean-up to do.

Indeed i noticed a problem with permissions as well. Disk Utility fixed the permissions on all the components, but next you know the update appears again after fixing permissions (they get set from 80 to 0 and 501 to 0). After that the fix permissions run update appears again. I tried your solution with using Pacifist hoping this works, Thanks for you extra solution.

To all those who are seeing the update again after thinking you had solved it: I believe Apple has fixed and reissued the update. That's why you're seeing it again. The numbering hasn't changed, but it's actually a new update.

I installed it and it's working fine, except for the permissions I had to fix with Disk Utility. So, you don't need Pacifist for this anymore. Just let the App Store install as usual, then fix the permissions, if you like.

Agreed.

Wouldn't you think Apple would just fix the problem and and update the revision number to let's say 2.0.2 just to clear up any misunderstandings? Especially with a bug such as this one and the way it presented itself. Version numbers don't scare me and there are plenty more to pull from. The bottom line I guess is that the trouble is fixed. Hopefully Apple reads these forums and perhaps they will be a little more timely and or interactive.

I am running OS 10.7.5. The Apple recommended fix DID NOT work for me:

1) Move all files from /Library/QuickTime/ to a temp older on desktop

2) Open AppStore and download/install update

3) Reboot

4) Copy any missing files from temp folder on desktop to /Library/QuickTime.)

I tried it twice (about a week apart) thinking I must not have followed the directions correctly. Not so.

Pacifist did work however. I needed to download an earlier version for OS 10.7. Also I had to click the 'Replace' button several dozen times during the Pacifist installation. Very annoying. But not as annoying as getting Apple's software Update message repeatedly. Thanks Apple. This is something you should have fixed right away.
