Numbers and Pages Update 'waiting' on IoS

Yesterday my iPhone told me that there were updates for Pages and Numbers so I told it to update.

Both updates fail to load. I've stopped and restarted them and hard reset my 'phone but they won't update.

I've deleted the apps and tried to (re)install. Still stuck.

App icon has 'waiting' underneath and I can see the spinning network activity icon at the top.

App Store no longer offers update, or show it as successful. If I search for Numbers in App Store I get the 'cloud' download icon. Click it and it starts to download and the app icon has 'Loading' underneath' but then sticks at 50% (ish) and just sits there.

That seemed to work for me. Makes me wonder what has changed. Was something pointing to the wrong server somewhere? Was iOS holding onto that until a hard reset happened? The version number wasn't rev'd so I would make the assumption that the package wasn't changed. A flaky service or server on Apple's side would possibly explain why it was inconsistent for people. I am sure we will never really know though...

And worked for me this morning. I think you may be right and that Apple has changed something but hey ho, all done now.

OK, this morning I tried a hard reset (again) and hit the download of Pages from the AppStore (again).

This time it worked. And Numbers too.

I've tried these steps before so I suspect, like bellefso, that Apple has done something. Oh well, fixed for me now.

I had done a hard-reset on Friday but it didn't help. This morning it worked. I'm guessing some helpful Apple Elf made some changes over the weekend. Anyway, Numbers is now working, and thanks to whoever fixed it!

Still no solution for Keynote on this problem for me. My poor iPad Air 2 is wondering why it has to keep resetting 😕 Have deleted Keynote from the iTunes library on the MacBook Pro, then re-downloaded it, in case that file was corrupted, but still will not sync with the iPad. Can't delete the obviously corrupted file from the iPad, and can't overwrite the bad file with the fresh one. It may be that the nuclear option is the only solution for me 😟

When I had it hanging around I was able to delete by using Settings > General > Usage > Manage Storage > Click the app(on mine it was blank with the proper app icon) then click the Delete App button.

That allowed me to remove it on my iphone when the normal long press X option didn't work.

Thank you so much, bellefso! I did not know about the "manage storage" method of deleting apps, and by using that to delete the corrupted Keynote file, then doing (yet another!) hard reset, and syncing with iTunes, a stable Keynote app was restored. Nice trick to remember! 🙂

I followed the same as dustyblueheron47 - delete Pages, hard reset, sync with iTunes. It worked! Thanks all

Many thanks to dustyblueheron47 and bellfso--combining the Manage storage suggestion and a hard reset of the iPhone allowed me to successfully redownload my broken Pages app from my Purchased list in the App Store app.

Had all these problems every time there was an update to Pages and Numbers, I was getting sick of it until I found a very simple fix. Delete them and use Google Docs and Sheets, end of problem. If Apple won't fix this they cannot expect people to continue using their software.
