NPlayer: Is it safe?

Hi all, I was about to buy and install NPlayer, but since I'll be using NPlayer to watch all of my videos, is there any chance for NPlayer to send information back to the app's author? Can NPlayer send back information about me?

I was really worried about this so I haven't bought the app as yet.

Thanks for any help!

It probably is. And to reassure yourself you should see if they have a privacy policy. If they don't then they could keep a database on everything you watch with the app and sell it to advertisers. Apple has such a policy. Google and Facebook had such policies but they just ignored them and then rewrote them when they got caught.

Your safest way to watch videos and avoid the chance for anyone to know what you are watching is to buy a BluRay player, don't connect it to the internet and use only Blurays.

Well, except for the fact that the merchants who sell you the BluRays are keeping track.

Any software used to read a document, open a picture, play a song, or play a video can capture the information regarding the file, store it within the app and send it somewhere if they choose to do so. They only way you can ABSOLUTELY be sure they are not doing so is to have someone hack the app and make sure it contains no such code.

What are you so worried about? If you are watching pirated commercial movies (please don't steal media) it is doubtful anyone, including the developers of Player would care. They might care to collect what you watch if they can sell your preferences to another company that could then attempt to sell you similar titles. If you are watching adult movies the developers aren't going to care, with the exception they might sell your preferences to a company that sells adult titles. If you are viewing child **** or snuff films they probably will care and will contact the authorities and you will be arrested.

Since dilbert41 has this software perhaps he can check his documentation and see if they have a privacy policy. Or you can write to the developer and ask to see one. Or you can turn off WiFi, BT, Cellular, etc. and make sure this iPad NEVER connects to the internet.

I thought that I would pop in again and offer my suggestions which really just mirror what deggie already stated. I will be a little more blunt about it. If you feel that you have something to hide, don't download the app and stay off of the Internet. I understand privacy concerns, but you are taking this to a new level of paranoia - IMHO. The only way to be absolutely sure that your information is not being gathered by anyone else, is to not put yourself in any position where it could possibly occur.
