Watch keeps locking

So, I setup a passcode on my Watch and I thought that it would stay unlocked while on my wrist and only require the passcode when taken off but that doesn't seem to be the case. Am I wrong?

I have Simple Passcode set, Unlock with iPhone turned on and also Wrist Detection turned on.

I have similar symptoms. I have the stainless steel watch and stainless steel band.

Watch intermittently asks me for my pin code several times a day.

I am wearing it normally tight. (any tighter and it would be very uncomfortable.

I think the problem is software.

I can fix it for a few days by force quitting all apps in my iPhone 6 Plus.

But after a few days of launching apps, it starts to fail again and starts asking me for the code several times during the day.

I does not matter how active I am. It can fail when I am taking a nap in my lounge chair.

Try this...

Double tap on the home button then swipe upward on every app you see.

In my case it can be over 100 apps.

That will force quit every app.

Now lets see if the problem is gone.

For me, the problem is gone.

It comes back maybe a week later until I force quit all apps again.

I've been having the same problem for several days. After trying the turn off the wifi on your phone trick (which didn't work), I thought to check bluetooth.

My iPhone's bluetooth and wifi were on (and listed the watch), but when I went into the watch and clicked bluetooth (settings, bluetooth), I just got "searching...." for ages.

Turned off bluetooth on my phone. Waited a few moments for it to drop whatever connections it thought it had. Turned it back on. The iPhone saw the watch and said "connected" almost immediately and...

Suddenly my watch is not constantly locking itself on my wrist all the time.

Woot!

🙂

I'm sure by now this topic may have been solved or whatnot, though my Watch began showing these very symptoms today.

After about an hour or so of trying all sorts of things (restarting, un-pairing/re-pairing, turning off wifi/BT, restoring previous settings, toggling wrist detection, changing watch bands, etc.), nothing seemed to work. After re-pairing it however, I started noticing the activity wheel on my watch face would also disappear when i moved my wrist in any direction - both under 'normal' fit & very tight fit on watch bands (i tried 3 of them) - this was usually the telltale sign it had locked for me. I then tried to go to Glances and attempt to see if forcing a Heart Rate measurement would work to 're-sync' it. I checked my Heart rate against a tight fit, move my arm/wrist normally and it had not locked - sweet! - so i proceeded to loosen my band to normal fit and re-checked Heart Rate to be sure, then move arm/wrist. Same BPM, and watch did not lock. So far it's stayed unlocked for about 2 hours on my wrist, I'll try to update this post if it fails.

Anyways, hope this info helps, even if just a little to try something else before sending it in for repair.

I Would advise screen shots, video Of when the device is malfunctioning, I would not have got a working watch if I hadn't documented each time it "went weird."

for me the biggest tell was the Stand sensor, looking at Activity you could clearly see which days it was not working, this was the kicker as every time it went to Apple or the service depot it worked fine - most ridiculously when I was walking from car to apple store for genius appt :-)

Update: So it worked all day yesterday after i forced the Heart Rate monitor to make a reading. No locks after that. Fast forward to this morning, It locked once after I put it on and unlocked it the first time. HR Mon fixed, three hours later it locked on my wrist again. So it looks like HRMon is only a temporary fix. Sad, Sad Panda.😟

I just got my watch and at first it worked as expected. Then, it started constantly locking while on my wrist. I unpaired and repaired it, with no luck, I tried everything listed here and in a few other places (except for turning off wrist detection) and nothing helped. Finally, I went to the heart rate app and let it take a reading, which worked. Ever since then, it is working fine.
