Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT

I hate this new Photos!

I had already spent hours multiple times to get all my photos sorted. I have traveled all over the world and have thousands of pics, also have Faces set up with those locations. Now, after this latest update, everything has totally changed and I am so angry I could scream or choke someone! What can I do to get the iPhoto back and get rid of this update?

Thanks for the help if there is any hope left.

Nothing to "get back" - iPhoto is in your applications folder - launch and use it - no reason in the world to use a program you hate

Yes but why would it even be a purchase in the app store if it came with the computer? Mine is a work computer so any extra apps that were added were added by the computer tech on his account not mine. I've spoken to Apple and they said if it's not in the purchases in his account (which they don't think it will be) then they can send me a disc with a version of iPhoto that I can use. They are being really helpful but they wouldn't have to go to all this trouble if it wasn't such a rubbish app.

Then the person who set up the computer and accepted iPhoto to her/his AppleID would have to do the update using the same AppleID. Usually you would associate apps that come preinstalled with your AppleID at the App store by accepting them to the AppleID, so they can be updated using the same AppleID. That hold for all preinstalled apps with MacOS X 10.107 or later.

OK - this may not be for everyone, but, after ******* around with various people's suggestions, I realized that:

a) I still had iPhoto, and

b) I still had Aperture.

I wanted to go back to iPhoto, but I had a whole slew of stuff in Photos that wefren't on iPhoto and I needed in iPhoto. Imagine the tedious process of export/import. Yuck!!! I have to admit I started doing this - with messages that my drive was getting full!!!!

So, Photos will let me export whatever I want to Aperture. Neat. I selected the missing photos from iPhotos in Photos and sent them to Aperture. Aperture shares the iPhoto library, so any changes to Aperture shows up in iPhoto! Easy-peasy!

Now, why didn't "Photos" think of that! I think it's Apple trying to make us do what they want (or think we want) and not what we want! It really is a **** trait of Apple that makes you do what they want you to do and makes as sure as possible you can't get around it easily - if at all!!!

Hope this helps someone - and maybe alerts Apple to its failed mission to provide user-friendly software and apps that are not Windozed!

Very first answer explained this (for iPhoto since that was the OP's question)

Nothing to "get back" - iPhoto is in your applications folder - launch and use it - no reason in the world to use a program you hate

That was all you had to read - if you wanted more information like how to =do the same for Aperture (same answer of course) or how to move photos form Photos to either iPhoto or Photos then all you had to do is start a new thread and ask

No need to swear and RANT - just calming follow the instructions and if there is not enough there then ask you own question (threadJacking other's questions is Rude and confusing)

Hi, I tried that but the app under "Purchases" won't open, and when I did the spotlight search and found it, I clicked on it but when it said I had to update the program, the response was the update is not available. I am at a loss.

Have you read the User Tip? Get iPhoto 9.6.1 if you didn't update before OS... | Apple Support Communities

Only iPhoto 9.6.1 will run on MacOS X 10.10.3. Move the incompatible version to the Trash. Spotlight must not see it as installed. On't empty the trash. Then open the Purchases tab of the App Store again. It should now show "Install" instead of run. Install the iPhoto again. It will install the current, new version.

How do I do this?

thank you

You do that when you set up a new Mac. When you first open the AppStore and look at the Purchases tab of the Appstore, the preinstalled iLIfe applications (iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand) will be waiting on the Purchases tab with an "Accept" button beside them. If you click that button, it will associate the apps with your Apple ID, and you can update them using that ID.

When MacOS 10.9. came out, you could also associate the earlier iPhoto '11 versions, bought on iLIfe '11 installer disks with your AppleID by updating them to iPhoto 9.4.5, the first App Store only version.

Then use iPhoto - crazy to use software you do not like - and even crazier to move to a different system with all new and different software to avoid one program that you simply do not understand

iPhoto works fine - it is in your applications folder - you need version 9.6.1 - if you were not up do date when you upgraded to 10.10.3 or 10.10.4 see Can't Update iPhoto because it is not available in the App Store

or just learn to use Photos - for the rest of your life you will fine that new things need new learning - and Photos is easy to learn and for most things is better than iPhoto - and this fall the El Captain upgrade promises to fix most of the few deficiencies so using iPhoto for 3 months is a logical and sane solution vs moving to a totally foreign system what will have the same type of changes going forward

But you just go do what every you want -
