Why is the Apple website so decidedly incompatible with mobile devices?

Why is it that when I try to post a question to the support community page via my iPhone or iPad, it turns into an ordeal similar to what I would imagine a day at the DMV in **** would be like. Autocorrect turns into auto-uncorrect and basically anything I type I have to go back over with a fine tooth comb because there will be errors that will not be picked up by the spellcheck on the site or the device. Surely I'm not the only one who experiences this. How can a company like Apple let this continue. This site is without a doubt not mobile friendly. And yet Apple derives a significant amount of income from the sale of mobile devices. And there is no way to create or manage an Apple ID without coming to the Apple website. And you are basically forced to create an Apple ID if you want to enjoy the full functionality of an iOS device. Can anyone explain this to me? Am I doing something wrong? This is a valid question and not a rant. Why does typing this on an iPad result in me wishing I was having gum surgery just to get away from the agony of using this site on a mobile device?

I have also had problems with the spell check and autocorrect using Safari in the ASC for quite some time. I know that there are some other higher level users that have talked about this problem and we have made our concerns known to the hosts and they seem to be powerless to do anything about it other than report it to engineering, nothing ever comes of it,


Frankly, IMO, this whole website is somewhat of a joke in terms of the little glitches and bugs that crop up in this forum. However, Apple did not create this website, they outsourced it. They did not build it themselves. That does not excuse them from anything since their hallowed name is on the site. It is after all called the Apple Support Communities.

The problem is simply this: When I use the Apple support website on any mobile device (iPhone or iPad) anything I type is plagued with numerous spelling errors that occur, not despite of but, because of autocorrect seeming to be at odds with the text format box used on this site. That is just a guess because I have no idea where the problem lies exactly. All I know is that it goes beyond simple user error. It has gotten to the point where if I want to access and use this site on one of my mobile devices I either have to type my question in Notes and then copy and paste from there into the website or use dictation. Which is what I'm doing right now. Don't get me wrong using dictation and notes at the same time is a breeze. But there are times when I would like to just simply type a question without having to speak it. I will reply again in a few minutes from my tablet to give you an example of the kinds of errors that I see every time I type a question or comment on this site. I'd like to point out that this is a problem specific to this one website only.

I am glad to hear from your comment and Robert before you that I am not the only one experiencing this. I am surprised to hear that this website was outsourced. I do not understand the logic behind such a move but there are lots of things I will probably understand. And most of those things have to do with Apple. I agree if their name is on the site, it is for all intents and purposes an Apple website. And as such there really is no excuse for such shoddy programming. I just don't understand the lack of concern by anyone at Apple.


Branching out from the original problem to a broader topic - the iPhone and the iPad are arguably the two products that made Apple accessible to a much larger user base than it had known previously. And yet the entirety of Apple's website appears in only a desktop version. Wouldn't a company like Apple benefit from updating their site to adapt to modern times and usage especially when they are right at the front of the pack in terms of mobile technology? I don't have a lot of friends who use an iMac (mostly because of the price) but I do know a lot of people who use an iPhone, an iPad or both. But navigating through their website on any mobile device could make a potential customer rethink and ultimately choose a competing manufacturer from simply having a poor online experience. But they must know a thing or two about a thing or two because last I checked, they're still making money. Anyways thanks again for your comment.

Ok well.. After logging in from my iPad, I have spent the last 15 minutes simply trying to open the "reply" link which results in... nothing.. at all. It just goes to the top of the page and loads no data. When I hold my finger on the link and select open in new tab, it takes me to the general discussions page and apparently logs me out. When I try to reply to the general discussion.. same as above - takes me to the top of the screen and loads no data at all. I have javascript turned on and cookies are enabled. I have everything set correctly on my end. It is the site or the device where the malfunction occurs. And since this is the only site where these types of problems occur.. logic would suggest that it is the site and neither device nor user error as others have suggested. But, as long as it doesn't reach the point of me throwing my device into rush hour traffic as a means to end the pain of it all, I will continue to attempt to login and reply from my tablet so as to provide further documentation on this issue. Of course as ridiculous as they may appear, I have provided real life examples before. But as I said, I will continue to attempt to do so again.

OK hi again Meg. This comment is being thoed not using safair but browser built into 1password. It actually seems to be a little better using this vs safari but still as you cancase ether. Are still numerous errors that would not have occurred were I to tyiem in this same way ken any air horn website. Ok look man back. On what I said proviso u about it being a little better... I take. Test comment back. Meuse you Abe bi idea how difficult it is for me to even send this ridicilost mess of crisp. Omg. Screw all this.

As long as I use Safari on this website, one thing that I have tried to make a habit of doing when I begin to type a post here is to tap the HTML button right next to the spell check icon at the top of the editor bar and then type my response. That will get rid of the double caps, and it seems to be a bit more reliable when it comes to spell check and auto correct. If you want to post a link on your response, you will have to go back to the full formatting editor and to do that you tap the HTML button again.


That might ease your frustrations a little bit.

I regularly use Safari to post on this site from my iPad. I have the initial double capital problem. However, I don't have any of the other problems you're describing. To get the sort of spelling mess you've just typed, I'd have to do it on purpose. Occasionally, I use HTML but, mostly, I use the Full Editor. The fact that I can get to work would indicate that it's possible and you've got other things going on.

WWhat sorts of other things might I possibly have goign on in your opinion. I assure you that I really do have better thiNGOs to do with my free time that I would actually enjiy doing much more than i emjy doing this. the example above is me typing with no or very few attempts at backspacing to correct. many times backspacing seems to just compound the problem. But like right now. either I'm typing better or the problem just ixPxP. <------- does this mean anything? i was typing the word isnt but then this happened and it looks neat. If this isn't already some code computer thingy someone should make it a code type dealie. I just want credit for accidenasally <-------------------- I just would like credit for ------- accidenasally naMing it. It is late/early and I dont care where this rabbit hole goes. I gotta find out if Alice is even down there or I Just accidenasally go the we.st like Jim Morrison said because its best......... Now no one will take me seriously again. have a little fun with sleep deprivation and everyone thinks troll. Pweèe. In all seriousness I would like to know what else you think I might have going on tthat could be causing probelems. I turned on bold not on purpose. this was definitely user error though. Although I do like the bold. ok bye thanks again....... I'm not all the way crazy.

WWould I be correct in assuming i pushed the wrong button? The only button I see next to spellcheck is the one that looks like a word bubble

Alright bob ive got auto correct off and predictive off. Hey look i dont type so bad afterall. We get kinda spoiled to the auto this auto that features nowadays. Huh.. I was sure id have a hard time adjusting to it but without autocorrect slowing me down this actually works alot better than i ever thought it would. Still have the double capitalizaton which i just fixed by highlighting it and selecting. Cheers bob!

Glad to hear you got some relief. My trick for the double caps is to hold the cap key down then release for the second letter. If that doesn't work try the keyboard below. It does't have auto-cap so you have to hold the key down for the first letter. It has the added bonus of being able to move the cursor by by moving your finger on the space bar.
