Why is the Apple website so decidedly incompatible with mobile devices?

Why is it that when I try to post a question to the support community page via my iPhone or iPad, it turns into an ordeal similar to what I would imagine a day at the DMV in **** would be like. Autocorrect turns into auto-uncorrect and basically anything I type I have to go back over with a fine tooth comb because there will be errors that will not be picked up by the spellcheck on the site or the device. Surely I'm not the only one who experiences this. How can a company like Apple let this continue. This site is without a doubt not mobile friendly. And yet Apple derives a significant amount of income from the sale of mobile devices. And there is no way to create or manage an Apple ID without coming to the Apple website. And you are basically forced to create an Apple ID if you want to enjoy the full functionality of an iOS device. Can anyone explain this to me? Am I doing something wrong? This is a valid question and not a rant. Why does typing this on an iPad result in me wishing I was having gum surgery just to get away from the agony of using this site on a mobile device?

The HTML Button says HTML.

This was by far the greatest comment I've ever seen. I have no idea if you are a patient man or not. But I know if I typed the sentence, "the html button says html" I would be just about out of patience for the whole thing. And I swear I'm not messing with you but..

I don't have one of those... what did you call it.... an H-T-M-L Button.... nope I ain't never seen one of them before. Ain't no way I got one of those. How do I get me one of them there H-T-M-L buttons?

Okay maybe I'm having a little fun but in all seriousness, I truly do not see that on my screen. It was not there earlier when I responded from my tablet and its also not there now on using my iMac. Is that weird? Seems weird to me. You'd think it would be there right? But it's not. I even clicked to the side spell check just to see if it might popup or something but nothing.. no HTML button. Actually, I am a man of very little patience but I really enjoy trying to help people sort these types of issues on their devices. Having said that, I have no clue why you do not see the HTML button.

I turned off auto correct, spell check, auto caps and evrything else in the keyboard settings to see if I could replicate what you are seeing, but I can't. You dont have the Use Advanced Editor option in the upper right corner of the text block either. you cannot edit a post can you?

May 23, 2015 6:52 PM in response to Demo

Well that is indeed strange. I do not have any of those other options available. What I showed you before is what I have to work with on both tablet and imac. Is it possibly something unlocked once a community member reaches a certain level? And since I am a level 1 with 0 points, I don't have access to the advanced editor? That's the only thing I can think of off the top of my head.

Edit - and as far as editing goes it seems I am able to only edit the last comment I made. Not sure if this is per topic/discussion or overall but it seems that on this topic, I am only able to edit this comment I made to you but not any of the other comments I made to anyone else. I am curious to see if I can edit a comment on another discussion. I don't seem to be able to edit a post though.

You can only edit your own comments and it must take place within 15 minutes of the original post. So if you respond to me now and decide to edit the answer, you have 15 minutes to do so. After that, you cannot get back into your response. If you edit within the 15 minute time frame, that does not reset the clock and give you another 15 minutes. It is 15 minutes total from the time you hit Reply and post your response,

I Really didn't give any thought to the fact that you have to be a certain level in order to see the full editor bar. I can ask some other people in the lounge, which is an area that you do not access to until you reach level 6. Somebody in there should know the answer, or so I would think. But honestly, I don't think that's it. It's probably something really simple that I am missing.

If you read Matt's tutorial here, it shows the full editor bar when you ask a question. Anybody that has an Apple ID and joins the ASC can ask a question and should see what Matt is showing in his tutorial.

I'm not sure I follow what you're saying here in regards to the tutorial. I see there are screenshots that show the same editor bar you showed me earlier in your pictures but I don't see how that relates any more than your own screenshots have done. Unless Matt was a level 1 with 0 points at the time he wrote it.

It is quite strange to me that it would be the same both on tablet and desktop safari. I wonder if another browser would be any different. I kinda doubt it though. It's things like this that make me wonder all kinds of strange thoughts that are usually not conducive to a healthy mental outlook. I posted this in another discussion but since I'm here I might as well try my luck...

Have you ever had an issue with safari not clearing all the data out when you tell it to clear browsing history and website data? I clear all my data, clear cookies, block cookies, turn off java, turn off spotlight, turn off anything that could possibly be causing it but nothing ever changes it. It will show that all data has been cleared and yet when I go to safari the next time, typing a single letter will bring up the "top hits" of frequently visited sites that should have been cleared but obviously weren't.

And I think I remember an iOS update (either the last one or the one before that) that talked about this exact thing which I had never experienced until after updating to the current version of iOS which is supposed to have already patched this vulnerability.

I don't know if its considered bad form to branch off like that in the middle of a discussion but maybe it is related as well.

You can check another browser. I logged in on my Puffin Browser and the HTML is there but not the advanced editor. That the two problems were relalted was just a shot in the dark to try and understand your original question. I can't beleive not one person answered my question.

About the top hits, I remember reading people having problems with it but I usually just ignore them so I can't offer much advice there, sorry

I was going to, but I'm not qualified. 😝

Just to add, I do have both the HTML and "advanced editor" options under OSX 10.10.3 using both Firefox 34.0.5 & Safari 8.0.6. Same features on the iPad Air 2 under iOS 8.3 using Safari.

I have a feeling it may be related to your level as was mentioned...but if so, I wonder why it would be? I wish someone would answer Bob's post to verify.

Aloha SergZak.

Thanks for getting in touch. You were the first person I thought of then I found I had a screenshot from when I was Level 5 and it showed the HTMl button and that left you out. I'm surprized you found this thread since I forgot to put a link back to it. I know a couple of Level 3s I'll get in touch with in the morning. I think the bigger problem is why the auto-correct jibberish. I've gotten so use to the glitches I don't even bother with the HTML.

Stay well. Bob.

I see the same thing that you do using the same OS X on my MBP, using both versions of those browsers, and on the iPad Air 2 running iOS 8.3.

if this was truly level related, why would Matt K's screenshot show the advanced editor with the HTML button/option in his tutorial on

While the tutorial is for everybody it is really targeted for new members as an introduction on how to use the ASC. So a new member would be a level 1 with 0 points coming in.

Here is a screenshot from that tutorial. You have to look closely, but you can see the HTML option next to the spellcheck button.
