Haptic not working on Apple watch messages

Haptic works for phone calls but not messages on my Apple Watch sport. Tried a reset, re-pairing, spoke to apple chat and we still couldn't solve the problem. I'm awaiting a call back from an Apple advisor but just wondering if anyone else has the same issues. I have all the settings correctly set because I get a haptic tap for sketches and heartbeats but not messages. Phone calls tap me as well as the person calling showing up on home screen but I get nothing with a text. The texts do appear on the watch but only if I go into messages I'll see them.

Having the same issues, called apple, went to store genius bar, everything was reset, including phone, re-paired etc. It worked one time and then not again. Went through same process again and then nothing. I spent several hours at the store working with the "geniuses" It was finally decided that this is most likely a possible software problem or defect.

Since there are no replacements available at this time I was told that I need to wait for Apple to hopefully get an update soon or somehow fix the problem.

Everything works great other than not getting the haptic for messages but if I click on the messages icon I do see them. I love the watch…it's great.

Just too bad about this problem…:-( and having to wait for a fix. (This is not official yet but probably will be soon from reading this support and what I was told at the store.

I think here is the answer to this specific problem. I copied this from another Post.

For me it worked! Please check it ...

"As it turns out this is easy to do, if you realize that the watch is trying to respect your phone settings.

Here's what I did:

1. In the Apple Watch app on the iPhone, for the Mail settings, I said "Mirror my iPhone"

2. On the iPhone, In the Notifications settings for Mail, go to your Gmail account and click on Notification Sound

3. Under Vibration, pick one of the vibration settings other than None. Making this something other than None turns on haptic/tap on the watch, because the watch is trying to "mirror your phone"

4. Go back one screen from Vibration and pick "None" for Alert Tones. This turns off the sound on the watch too!

The same applies for other apps on the iPhone/Watch combo (calendar, iMessage). Changing the vibration and sound settings in the iPhone's notification settings affects the watch for those apps as well. I think most folks don't realize this, and it may explain why many people say they don't get notifications on the watch at all. They may have the notifications turned off on the phone, or alternately, have vibration and/or sound turned off for the notification on the phone."

Yes and no. I had my mail notifications set up to mirror my phone. That means I should be getting an alert tone or haptic or something, and I was getting nothing lately, although it worked for the first few days I had the watch. I tried the reboot of phone and watch and got nothing. I then changed the watch mail settings to custom and set each e-mail account (I have several) to show alerts and use a sound and haptic. The first few messages gave me neither a sound nor a haptic, but now I seem to be getting both.

Hello,

i found out that there are 3 possible levels to set up the notifications.

1. Setup in the Apple Watch companion App : Messaging + Tones & Haptic

2. Iphone-Setup for Messaging + Tones & vibrations

3. There could be also a setup in the single app itself. whatsapp for example had several setup-options too.

So you have to check every singel app you want to inform you with haptic if there are possible setups that you have turned off for messaging.

The first step should be to turn everything on that matters for notifications. Messaging Haptic + tones on all 3 levels. Then restart all devices and test it.

If that worked you can try to setup the behavior that you need.

I hope this helps 🙂

I found recently that only my Whatsapp Notifications were not vibrating in my Watch, despite I had always the red dot waiting there.

The problem in this particular case was that I had in my iPhone´s Whatsapp notification preferences the sound deactivated, so my Watch was trying to mirror this preference, avoiding the vibration in my watch. So go there and check everything is ok, hope it could help.

Don't know if this will help but i have just experienced the same problem and found it to be something really simple. My son was texting me while i was sorting things out on my phone and it wouldn't vibrate or sound on my watch. i then put my phone to sleep and he text me again resulting in the desired haptic tap and a pleasant DING!!

Thinking about it we figured that if your watch is unlocked it is a pretty safe bet you're using it in which case the message or email will show up infront of your eyes, meaning the watch no longer needs to inform you. However if your phone is locked and in another room or the car or your pocket then a audible and physical alert will be required from the watch.

Give it a go and see if it resolves your problem.

Regards

Dave

No matter what I do or how many times I do it, the haptic never seems to stay working. Every time I reset this watch the haptic will work for a little while but just stops working for whatever reason. It's unbelievably frustrating because that’s the main reason why I bought the watch. I hate having to pull my phone out all the time to view my messages. I expected a lot more from Apple. I guess I’m stuck with this until Apple comes out with a patch or an entirely new update.

Haptic not work….APPLE WILL FIX!!! I had the same problem, one of the first watches and after several attempts at the genius bar to fix no results,

they said apple will probably come out with a fix but they didn't and realized it is a hardware problem, So Apple is now sending them back to wherever to get them fixed.

It took about 5 days…and now my watch works ALL THE TIME!!!

Just take it to the genius bar and tell them you have read that the watch must be returned to the company for fixing…some of the geniuses may not know this. Just insist on it (nicely) and they will do it.

Everyone -

I have followed this thread and nowhere has anyone posted the following fix...

Quite simply in the notification settings within the Watch App on the iPhone - in stead of allowing the watch to mirror the iPhone settings - click CUSTOM.

You then have an option to turn on Haptic for each notification category. You can also turn on and off the sound notification here as well.

This has been a 100% fix to the haptic notifications. No resetting or keeping the phone in locked mode.

Hope this helps.
