Anyone else used Apple Watch in the shower? :-)

I just used my stainless steel with sports band in the shower, anyone else tried this or similar?

As I have the same model Tim Cook wears and he has publicly stated he does the same, I thought I'd give it a try. Absolutely no problems whatsoever.

I won't be doing it all the time, as I understand the steam and water of persistent showering over time will damage the watch, right?

However, I like the idea of not missing an important call or notification when showering! I have a ring doorbell, which notifies me if anyone calls at the door, so its great for not missing deliveries etc.

I don't think I will be as crazy as some of the reviewers out there who have successfully swam with the watch for 15 minutes at 1.5metres.

Thought it would be good to start a thread on those who have used the watch testing the water resistance.

I'm not encouraging anyone to do anything, I'm asking for those people who have used it in the shower to document their experiences on this thread, just like PyxelShooter.

I'm not going to get into the debate about what Tim Cook said, I think it's pretty clear and it has been well documented.

We don't need lawyer types like you on this forum, we need people who are willing to share their experiences using this great new product, which exceeds all expectations.

Anyone who uses the watch outside of guidelines should not expect warranty replacement. I certainly won't approach Apple for this. So stop panicking and drink that coffee!

Ben, it's really not up to you to decide who belongs on this forum and who doesn't. Open_Mobile's points are valid. Unless and until they violate the terms of use, they have as much right to express those opinions as you do yours. What other people may find helpful may well be different that what you do. In fact, one person has already marked Open_Mobile's most recent post in this thread as helpful.

OK then let me rephrase that. These forums would be better served with those who don't quote policy documents, who share experiences and who contribute to making Apple products better by sharing those experiences. By sharing my experiences, I serve to show how I personally used an Apple product and I am asking for others to share who have done the same. Not all of us need to be quoted terms and conditions and policies.

One person who likes to be righteous has marked Open_Mobile's post as helpful, but its not helpful to me (the forum OP) and people who want to share similar experiences.

Thank you for sharing your concerns, now anyone who wishes to share a similar experience on the topic please do. Once again, I'm not encouraging anyone to break policy or their warranty. Those who have quoted policies and terms and conditions are done now, we know its not supported by Apple! If my watch breaks, its my fault and I'll buy a new one!

These forums are for everyone who wants to participate as long as they stick to the terms of use. I agree with Open_Mobile. I think his comments add something to this forum and to this thread. You may not find it helpful. However, it's awfully presumptious of you to assume that it's not helpful to other people.

Meg can you please explain to me how it is that two comments made about your last response have been deleted?

What power do you have to dictate how people respond to this thread?

I Quote you: "These forums are for everyone who wants to participate"

Yet you, or someone you notified, has deleted parts of this thread.

I know this because I was emailed your response and the post from Mike was deleted.

So are you now deciding who belongs on this forum?!

Hoping to re-spark this topic, I have had my Apple Watch for a few weeks now and have been showering regularly with it since day one. I use a bluetooth speaker i use to listen to music in the shower, and use my watch to skip songs, change volume, etc. as well as to receive important calls and texts without getting out to answer the phone. After hearing the same reports as everyone else that Tim Cook showers with his, i assumed it would be more widely done than it apparently has been. But this this has been out for months now, has anyone had one that has broken strictly from shower water damage? Even after long term exposure?

So now you can use Apple Watch in the shower 🙂 (Apple Watch 2 that is)

Hi Ben

Whilst Apple advises that showering with Apple Watch Series 2 is OK, note that Apple also recommends not exposing it to soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion or perfumes, because they can negatively affect the watch's water seals and acoustic membranes.

Your watch should also be cleaned with fresh water and dried afterwards with a nonabrasive, lint free-cloth if it does come in contact with anything other than fresh water.

I have done this just about every shower since I got my Apple watch(about 18 months ago) Have never had a problem.

I've also crossed the street against the light, failed to get my vaccines updated and eaten food past not only its sell by date but past reasonable exceptions of it being good, all without harm. That doesn't mean that a) I'd recommend any of these actions to anyone else or b) that just because I have been luck enough to beat the odds up until now, I won't get hit by a bus the next time I step out between parked cars.
