Is AskMate LLC a legitimate Mac security fixing company?

Never, ever, ever respond to one of those popup messages. It is/was a scam. If you allowed them access to your computer, you should consider it compromised. Change ALL passwords for any account that you may have accessed from that computer. Restore your computer using a recent backup to a point prior to allowing the scammers access. If you divulged any financial information, contact your ban immediately and inform them of the scam.

I had the same situation today. I called for support and was given the Ask Mate llc contact. It seems the problem with the safari browser is OK now.

I was told to send a check for $450 to Ask Mate llc in Willmington. I even questioned the person Sam whether they were responsible for the browser problem.

What will happen if I don't mail the check to Ask Mate?

No, I will not send the check to Ask Mate llc. What shall I do if they send me an invoice as they said they would.

Just ignore it. You can contact your bank to find out if any additional action is needed to stop them.

You are unable to drag the application to the trash and empty the trash?

No. I tried dragging to the trash but to no avail. Sleipnir Browser is being used now as I write this.

Force quit it immediately. Press Command + option + esc, select it and choose force quit.

I got Sleipnir Browser into Trash and emptied Trash. Should I Force Quit anyway?

AskMate llc put ABP blocker on my computer. Should I get rid of ABP blocker? If yes, how?

If you were able to empty the trash, then it's not running.

AdBlock Plus is legitimate, however you should not trust anything installed by scammers, as it may be a compromised version of it. Remove it by going to Safari > Preferences > Extensions, selecting it, and clicking Uninstall.

What a horrible nightmare. What should I do next time if I get a pop up stating my browser has been compromised and I can't get rid of the pop up by X-ing out?

See A Browser Pop-up has Taken Over Safari. You might also consider installing ScamZapper, a Safari extension which prevents this specific kind of pop-up from displaying.
