Internet accounts keeps asking for Google password

I keep getting the following notification to enter my Google password in internet accounts since updating to 10.10.3. I have Google's two-factor authentication enabled and have already entered my password through internet accounts but I keep getting this notification every few days. I have tried removing the account and adding again, but the same thing happens.

Ok this was a serious pain.

What i did to resolve this issue was :

  1. go to your connected apps in your Google Security settings. (https://myaccount.google.com/u/0/permissions
  2. and deauthorize any 3rd party apps that may be causing this.. for me it was fantistical 2.
  3. Force close any app that is causing the prompting
  4. then reopen the app
  5. enter your icloud pass
  6. then click "allow" for the app as it will provide a new prompt

my issue was gone

Well, I'm experiencing the exact same problem with one of my two Gmail accounts set up in Apple Mail. No two-factor auth., and the mail account in question operates normally but I still receive the request to re-enter my password whenever I restart the machine. Curiously, if I click 'Continue' System Preferences never gives me the drop-down screen with the password field it just shows the 'Internet Accounts' pane.

Any solutions to this yet?

I have a total of 8 different Gmail accounts...ugh. It get's really annoying really fast when this stupid pop-up shows up for this many stupid accounts...why oh why doesn't Google play nice Apple...

End of my small rant. Hopefully the next update eliminates this or someone figures out what to do soon.

Hi Everyone,

I too have experienced this notification since adding my gmail account to mail. I notice that mail shows my gmail account as offline when the notification appeaars. Below seems to have resolved the problem for me.

It seems to be down to the mail app preferences not storing all the informaiton from the 'internet passwords' perference pane, or something like that anyway.

To resolve, open mail preferences, select your google/gmail account and check the username and password are complete/correct under 'account information'. In my case the username was missing '@gmail.com' on the end and the password field was in fact empty.

Simply correct the username and/or add the password and save the changes.

So far it's been a couple of days without the notifications and mail has not shown the gmail account as offline either. 🙂

good luck, hope this helps others get rid of this annoying 'feature'.

The problem seems to be from the new migration to Google new One account.

All of my accounts are now OK except to one of them, what I did was:

1- I logged to the security page and did security check and conformed that the PC I am using is OK to log in without code..

2- re entered password into mail settings

3- restarted my MAC..

Seems to be all good.. by the way I have two sets verification on and I have app specific on..

A follow up:

My previous suggestions have not been successful BUT I believe I found the solution.. it is by activating the app specific password and use the generated password, a pop messages will ask you to use google password and not the app specific just ignore and wait your mail will start to work in few minutes.

My settings is only to have mail activated, no other services are.

Hope this works for you..

Hi All,

i too had this problem for months. I am using Google 2FA and was plagued with that popup to keep reentering the password, and it would often not work. I delete the account multiple times and recreated it to no avail (and what a pain, downloading all of my GMAIL again..... )

Anyway i deleted most items in keychain that had gmail and oauth and oath (presumably a typo) and a few other sync ones. Closed mail, opened mail and it asked to enter the password again and viola it worked.

Keep my fingers crossed that it keeps working for a while...

hope it helps,

BUMP... any solution for this? It's started happening frequently now. I was able to get around it by clearing the keychain, logging into gmail directly and validating security settings, rebooting, and then entering my password. That worked for 2 days. Now it's back. I do have 2-factor authentication.

I think I may have found something interesting however. I have two laptops that both log in and get contacts from he same gmail account (same Internet Account in OS X). Looking at my settings I see that gmail things I'm on the wrong machine. In the attached pic, the one marked current has the name of my other laptop. The one not marked as current had no name associated with it. It looks like the auth token is getting picked up incorrectly on googles side and compared to the local token which would not match if that was the case.
