Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

I'm going cross eyed. Differing last person posting.

How do I keep content but erase settings?

Look at this discussion. The last person posting is different than what is seen in my discussion list. I'm I doing something odd. Wrong view etc?

When I look at my history, I see Caroling as the last poster. I click on title to get to discussion.

When I go to the discussion, I see rccharles as the last poster. Annoying.

I Believe that behaviour came about in the last ASC update (about a month ago). The OP has marked your reply as "Helpful", thus making their activity the most recent.

Robert,

looks like that is correct - helpie mark causes the phenomenon - I wonder why an answerie doesn't? or do we know that from this tiny test?

Also causing it =

A Host editing a post or removing a SPAM reply - their Username will be in the list and nowhere to be found in-thread - I cannot speak with confidence about "Moving to another discussion" or "Branching to another discussion" - but I would gamble on those doing it as well.

This is as good a place as any to add a workaround for a 'close relative' to this attribute of "Last poster" - when that post is invisible, gone, not even in the page source, link dead, etc. - most veterans simply reply with a " . " and voila! the Phantom appears.

I had the Phantom Post experience yesterday on one thread and again today on another - yesterday, I tried some 'out-of-the-box' thinking about anything User defineable about the way JiveWare let's us view stuff. The following occurred to me to try, try I did and whaddaya know? it worked!

When present in a thread exhibiting Phantom Post(s) misbehavior:

  1. Scroll to the top of page
  2. Click one's UserName to bring up the "Bubble"
  3. CMD + Click > 'Preferences' to open a new TAB with one's Prefs page
  4. Choose [Flat] in the "Discussions view" pull down menu
  5. Save changes
  6. Switch back to the PP thread's TAB
  7. Reload the page (with "Flat view" now enabled in the background)
  8. Voila! Phantom reveals himself
  9. Reply (or not as one chooses)*
  10. Switch back to the Prefs TAB
  11. Put the menu back to [Threaded]
  12. Save
  13. Go on about about one's normal WorkFlow
    * If one chooses NOT to Reply, and continues on to set Prefs back the way they were... +=> The Phantom returns to invisibility <=+

I know this seems like a heckuva lot of steps - Reply(to anything) > type a " . " > Post - is much fewer!! But I have an aversion to confusing naive users with " . " !! They are already upset, confused and lost or they wouldn't be here with their problem.

Maybe this "Discussions view" is the root of the evil - or maybe just another trick that works around .instead of a period. . . . . . . . ÇÇÇ
