Installing Airport Extreme 2nd Gen. 802.11n.

Installing Airport Extreme 2nd Gen. 802.11n. Install utility disc and get to "destination select" and tells me "Airport can't be installed on this disc, the version of Mac OS X is not supported. What do I do?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

So, do you want to try to download and install the software on the PC.....to see if you can update the AirPort to work with a newer Mac?

If not, Apple is selling refurbished AirPort Express routers......with new warranty for $65 on the online Store. The AirPort Express would run circles around the old AirPort Extreme.

Sure, but we need to know exactly what operating system the PC is using, so you can load the correct version of AirPort Utility for the PC.

I am not a PC person.....and do not know whether we will be running into the usual Windows Firewall issues trying to block connections. We will see.

I'm actually new to MacBooks and was more familiar with PC's up until a year ago, so I know my way around them pretty good. I'll find out the operating system on the PC first and we'll take it from there. Thanks again for your help!!

If the PC is running XP SP2 or Vista......then use AirPort Utility 5.4.2 for Windows

If the PC is running XP SP3, or Vista SP2.......then use AirPort Utility 5.5.3 for Windows

If the PC is running Windows 7 or higher.......then use AirPort Utility 5.6.1 for Windows

Post back when you have downloaded and installed the software.

Yep. Download and install the application and start it up.

To install the AirPort Extreme on the network, follow the instructions in the Set Up Guide.

Good luck! The first "test" here will be to see if the PC tries to block the connection attempt from AirPort Utility to the AirPort Extreme.

Go ahead and use the 5.4.2 utility to set up the AirPort Extreme. Update the firmware when the utility asks if you want to do so.

Once that is done, you should be able to use Airport Utility on your Mac to now "see" the AirPort Extreme and change any settings that you might want in the future.
