BMW bluetooth audio not working iPhone 6 iOS 8.3 (12F70)

I have a 2013 BMW X3 and have updated to the latest bmw firmware here:

http://www.bmw.com/com/en/owners/navigation/bluetooth/bluetooth_software_update_ vin.jsp?region=&country=

I have iOS 8.3 (12F70) on an iphone 6.

bluetooth audio streaming doesn't work

USB audio doesn't work.

when playing music from the phone (with bluetooth on, connected, BT audio checked in bmw settings)

the iphone shows the track playing (not audible), and nothing comes out of the bmw speakers.

the same is true for being connected via USB

also, when BT is connected, phone calls work normal. when switching audio modes via i-drive button, the radio display says "no CD inserted"

It does not recognize the paired iphone and only switches back and forth from FM to CD.

I have just purchased a 2013 BMW 328i. According to this thread the iPhone 6 is not compatible with the iDrive. Correct? I was able to pair my iPhone 6 for telephone usage, but I just got the 6s phone and unpaired the old phone, paired the new one, and it just keeps dialing my phone. I can only get it to hang up if I disconnect the bluetooth option on the phone. Its very frustrating. Also, when I plug my phone into the usb, iDrive tells me that my device is not supported. So much for my music. 😠 is this due to all the Apple incompatibility issues I am reading about above?

Hi cat3137,

It would be odd that your iphone 6 worked but the 6s doesn't. Also you have a fairly new car. Try the phone reset I suggested earlier (Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings) and see what happens. Trust me, I tried everything else and nothing worked. After the reset, you will have to re-enter some things on your phone (wifi passwords being one example) and obviously you'll have re-pair with your car but it's worth a try. Good luck and let me know how you get on if you do try it!

I had the same issue after upgrading to IOS 9.02.

Phone voice through BT works and BT audio seems connected but no sound.

This fixed it for me:

sometime the car forgets about external devices. here's what to do:

when you push the audio button to switch from FM radio to CD and it says "no cd" blah blah,

when you're on that screen, push the iDrive wheel to the left, select external devices, then you'll see a list of audio sources, scroll down and select your paired iPhone. then you should be back to how you knew it before the last update.

Hello Everyone,

This may be waaayy late but I was having the same problem. I had a iphone 5s that I connected to my 2011 Nissan Maxima that worked fine via aux plug in and bluebooth. Upgraded to 6 s plus and music would only play via aux plug in not Bluetooth even though phone showed as connected. Just today from another suggestion I deleted all phones connected to my car. Went back in and connect 6 s plus to car as I had done before. Phone shows connected but still no audio. When going back thru my settings I realized my car has a audio setting so I clicked on it and low and behold I could see my phone but my car said "not connected". I then selected my phone and then hit connect with the music playing through my phone speaker. As soon as I hit the connect the music started playing through my car speakers. I'm just guessing the maybe with the new technology on the 6 s plus that the "bluebooth" and "audio" had to be connected separately. I hope this helps. Basically check all settings for your car audio and make sure there is not a separate "something" that has to be connected.
