Import from Photos library to Powerpoint

I am having difficulty importing a photo from the new Photos library into a powerpoint presentation.

In powerpoint, I go Insert -> Picture from file -> Pictures but the Photos Library is greyed out.

Any thoughts?

Thank you!

I had no trouble with iPhoto: copy photo and paste into a Powerpoint slide and that was it. With the new Photo, this does not work. Neither can I drag a photo from a Photo album and insert into a Powerpoint slide. It does not stay on the slide by goes back to the album. (APPLE and MICROSOFT GENIUSES, ARE YOU READING ALL OF THIS)? What you need to do is cumbersome, but: drag the photo onto your desktop; and then you can drag it again onto a Powerpoint slide. Either I am not doing something correctly or they messed up a good application. Also, when an application is changed/"upgraded", why are there no explanations on how to use it? It's ridiculous.

I am struggling with exactly the same thing! I have no ability to access my Photo Library, only Photo Booth within PowerPoint. Insert Picture gives me no option as per the image above, and when I go to Insert Picture on the PowerPoint slide, I only get Photo Booth Images. See second image.

I get that for some programs, but for websites like Twitter and Facebook, I get this:

Photos doesn't show up in the Media Browser. If I go to the Pictures folder where Photos Library lives, I get this:

Double clicking doesn't show package contents--it attaches the library as if it were a photo, so I get this:

I hate that I have to drag photos to my desktop and then delete them because the new library system isn't generating an entry into the package contents. Any ideas, geniuses? THANK YOU!!!

Make sure you're looking in the correct library. The User/Home/Library.

NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder. It also works for Mavericks and Yosemite.

For Mavericks and Yosemite go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring up this window:

Ahh, interesting. I think we're getting somewhere... I see what you are talking about.

The screenshot above: Only has Photo Booth as an option (this is what I see from PowerPoint)

The screenshot below: Has BOTH Photo Booth and Photos as an option (this is what I see when I attach in this forum)

Even though my problem isn't completely solved - as least I am learning...

I managed to solve it by doing the following:

  1. Export the Photo to JPEG
  2. Save it in the dedicated folder
  3. In Power Point, insert the picture from the folder like inserting normal picture i.e. Insert -- Photo -- Picture from File -- choose the intended picture you just saved.

DONE..!!

I don't have Powerpoint installed on this machine, but in Word there is also an option to go

Insert -> Pictures -> From Browser and that option works here.

The from file is used when the image is in a file stored in the Finder, not in a library.

What version of MS Office are you running? Remember you need Office 2011 or later in order to the the Photos library and it's photos from Word, etc.

As a workaround drag the photos from the library to a folder on the Desktop and add them from there.

I'm having the same problem and it's frustrating. I'm running MS Office 2011 for Mac and I can't insert from Photo Browser or Picture from File with any programs. I only get the Photo Booth option to insert photos, nothing from my photo library. I don't understand that I can drag the photo onto the desktop but not into a program.

I have this same problem. Can no longer insert a photo from my photo library. It only gives me the option of photos from the PhotoBooth application. I see as of today--more than two months following your post--there is still no reply from the Apple Geniuses. So frustrating when the upgraded apps and OS upgrades result in things no longer working effectively.

The problem seems to be with the Powerpoint application, and hopefully they will eventually provide a software fix for this. The import feature works just fine in Keynote, by the way, so another option is to use Keynote instead and then export to Powerpoint. Not ideal, and not much different from the other suggestion to export to desktop and copy into Powerpoint.

Ok, painful as this is to solve, I have a work around.

I'm new to Mac's too and although I love my machine this technical willy-waving that goes on between MS and Apple only means that users like us get caught in the middle with a lack of usable functionality. Very painful.

To get around the issue, click and drag that picture you want to your desktop (when you do this the original stays in iPhoto so don't worry; you're just creating a copy). The go into PPT and browse to the file on your desktop instead of iPhoto and you'll find you can immediately insert it into your slide deck.

Hope this helps.

Thanks......I had the same problem. It's actually very easy as you have pointed out but for some reason, confuses people - including me.

The Media folder is in a bit of an unusual space....I would kind of expect it higher up the list.

Anyway, that is easy to fix.

Cheers
