iPhoto is now Photos?

This is a very annoying move to take a piece of software that I *bought and just remove it from my machine. As a shareholder and customer, I am deeply displeased by this approach. Especially after being forced to 're-purchase' iPhoto after a recent OS update, and now it simply disappears.

iPhoto was however a terrible mess of a program, so I hope Photos is an improvement. Is it? Or are there better alternatives out there? Apple should stick to hardware and stop wasting time with junky overly simplified software.

Instead of complaining to us poor users, it would be a lot better for everyone to do your complaining at http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html

At least the people there are capable of doing something about your complaints where as we are not.

Unfortunately, it's not solved. I get this series of messages when trying to update iPhoto:

It's there in my purchases too, but clicking 'update' has no effect. Looks like I'll need to schedule a call with a genius. I'll need that quarter after all. hehe.

So what I was saying in the beginning: updated Yosemite to 10.10.3 and lost iphoto. Not a complaint, just the facts.

Remember you need to put all existing versions of iPhoto in the Trash for this to work (including aliases) - if you have other versions one external back ups, disconnect them.

I did trash the application and tried to download from 'purchases' with no luck. Today I tried it again and it is downloading at the moment, so probably the re-boot did the trick. Thanks.

I get this helpful message now with my newly re-downloaded iphoto:

Again, and I've sent this to apple via feedback, migrating my photo library and replacing my photo manager after an OS update is a serious transgression. I have many thousands of photos going back years, and having them tampered with on my own machine is ridiculous.

And what happens if you push the 'Open iPhoto' button?

Before you get all cross remember a few things: you migrated your Library not Apple, your Photo manager was not replaced and your photos were not tampered with.

Since my iPhoto icon had been removed from the doc during the update I instinctively clicked the photos icon and set in motion a migration. I should have been more careful, but didn't expect to have to be after an update. Still questionable and I think a somewhat devious approach to get users on the new app. Thanks for your help.

SO, obviously you didn't read the release notes that came with the update either. If you don't listen when Apple tell you what's going on, then you can't blame them.
