Sound Files Won't Copy Over to FCPX

Hello,

I have 2 drives (a and b). I have copied my library, projects and all of my original media from drive a to drive b. Everything is perfect except for my sync sound/ off camera sound is not showing up in FCPX when I open my library from drive b. I can see all of the clips in FCPX, but there is just no sound. Can somebody please advise me on this?

Thank you,

Trey

Do you see the clip in the library? Does it appear to play but without sound, or does it show as offline? You may just have to relink.

Hi Tom,

My external is disconnected because I tried to copy everything over to a different drive instead I ended up where I am now. Do you know where I went wrong so I can avoid this in the future. Forgive me, but you might need to explain what you mean by consolidate to move files to the right place, or copy the files and relink them. I want to proceed with caution because media management is not my strength so I want be careful not make moves I don't fully understand. Thanks for helping!

WWhere is the library? Is it on a drive that has enough space to hold all the media?

YOu you can either work with managed media, keeping all the media inside the library, or with external media, keeping all the media outside the library in a specified location.

WHen hen you import media you can either import to the library location, either managed or external, or you can leave files in place. If you leave in place then whatever drive has the media has to be connected to work in the application.

Tom,

Now that you mention it, that is exactly what I did upon import. I told my files to stay in place and not import into my library location. What I don't understand though is how come my video files are still in tact, but my audio files are not?

Also, what can I do to get my audio files back into my library in project now that I am working on a different drive?

Tom,

I'm revisiting this thread because it looks like after I consolidated my files I ended up with a 27.69 file on my hard drive. I'd really like to see this on my external hard drive in order to free up space. Do you know if there is a way to transfer them over to my external drive without losing my consolidated files? That would be a huge help as my system is running way slow now.

Consolidating puts all files in the designated storage location for your library. Where is that? Inside the library?

The way I see it, there are two easy options:

1) Assuming the media is now consolidated inside the library, quit FCP X and drag the library to the external drive in the Finder.

2) If the media was consolidated to somewhere else in your system drive: click Modify Settings, chose an appropriate location for your media in the external drive, and then consolidate to this new location.
