10.10.3 on Mac Mini Late-2012 graphic issues

Ever since I updated 3 of my Mac Mini's (all late-2012 models) I have been seeing graphic artifacts on the screen randomly.

If I move a window over the artifact area, the artifacts go away. I haven't seen this issue until recently after installing 10.10.3.

2 of the Mac Mini's have Core i7 cpu, and the other has Core i5. All have maxed out 16GB of RAM and SSD drives.

Here is a link to a video of the artifacts when they are happening: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1NzMvof0j8

Has anyone seen this, or know if this is an open issue that is being addressed?

i have found turning transparency off in accesibilty in system preferences definetly helps a lot. I've had transparency switched on again the past week since upgrading to 10.10.4 hoping the problem would of been resolved but i must say i had forgot how frequently i was getting these graphical artefacts as they have been happening frequently every day since i have switched this setting back on. I have now switched transparency off again the past day and the graphical artefacts are practically non existent. Suggests to me a software issue but I'm no expert. Anyways give it a try

Perhaps to send a situational analysis (or complaint done with finesse) to Apple Feedback

on the matter of this new system posing somewhat ill effects on this model Mac, is needed?

• Product Feedback - Apple

I've not upgraded, as other real-life items are more important; perhaps they'll fix the issue

before these models are deemed 'obsolete' or some lesser update makes them so. This

is not speculative. It is pragmatic.

Did you have a previous full system backup (clone) to test to see if the firmware update

fails to allow use of an older (and otherwise) functional system, those without ill artifacts?

Good luck in any event..! 😐

Did you send photos and videos of the issue to Apple bug reporter? We should force Apple to resolve this huge bug.

I have the same problem since 10.10.3 in my MacBook Pro mid2012 with the Intel HD graphics 4000. I sent the MBP to Service 4 times but they are unable to detect the problem so they can't provide any fix. They replaced my logic board but the graphics problem remains in 10.11.3.

Apparently other users of the Late 2012 Mini i5/i7 have experienced a graphic issue

after upgrading to Yosemite 10.10.3. So far, mine is still at Mav 10.9.5 (shipped 10.9)

I've had this one, six months. From Apple online; new clearance stock, quad server.

So perhaps there may be some firmware or other update needed to remedy this issue.😐

Same issue here - 2012 i5 2.5...HD 4000 Graphics...

Been going on for a few months now.

TBH It's not a huge issue for me, as others have said just moving an open window around the area seems to clear the issue each time it happens.

It is annoying though and I really hope apple do something about it.

The majority of the other, more important things, on my own list of annoying Yosemite glitches seem to have been addressed, which I guess is good... It's been quite a flakey release though. I hope the next OS X is more reliable from the get-go.

I upgraded from Mavericks to El Capitan (10.11.1) and have been experiencing sporadic display glitches while watching videos. While I'm watching the video, bands of flashing blocks of color will appear outside of the active window. These artifacts remain on the desktop even after the video is done. Once while watching the video full screen, the title bar kept flickering. This happens in various apps: Firefox and Reeder.

I will turn off transparency as suggested and see if this happens again.

No, I haven't. Just standard log after error. BUT.... (maby it's premature) erlier post about probable FF/YT input to the problem made me check FF updates... switching from V45 to V46 - so far so good. Maby it actually IS a FF/YT problem, but noone connected those two things together so far? Or maby not. I'm going to give it a try and see what happen.

Hi everyone... have had the same problems. But I find it hard to believe apple hasn't figured out the problem for so long. So... it must be something we are missing...

I'm running my mac mini with an SSD (crucial mx100 512Gb) and 8 Gb (Kingston). Is anyone running the same ssd? I just installed (1 hour ago) a new firmware for the ssd, and will give you guys feedback.

The fact that at least in your experience, something in the code (mozilla firefox?) appears to

help trigger the graphics issue, may lead one to attempting to suggest this matter to Mozilla

so they can look into the build codes in their Firefox browser. Maybe it has some parts that

do not fair well when in use among other system or application codes; or with the firmware.

There is a feature in Firefox browser to report an issue; however the real proof would be in

the lines of system information relating to whatever is happening in your system. And that is

where this problem may find some resolution, if the right people actually had access to the

unit and the in-situ problem generated by the configuration of software & hardware inside.

{I've not upgraded my Late 2012 Mini i7 quad server beyond as-shipped OS X 10.9(.5) and

when I bought this unit from Apple Store online (clearance/new) hoped that it would be an

older stock model with Mountain Lion, since it shipped with only 4GB RAM. However I have

not done much with the computer, & could have saved $1K by exercising pre-buyer remorse.

Have considered partitioning one of the two factory installed 1-TB HDDs so as to create a

space for later OS X installations, while leaving the original Mavericks installation intact; but

did not hear back on inquiry, if I could do that and get the application upgrades, (as offered

to new computer purchases) installed in the second HDD as well, and so I haven't. A year

ago on 23 December; so I'm considering Applecare plan. Unanswered questions there, and

lack of on-ground support in AK have left me wondering why I bought such a new item; as

I've much previous experience using & repairing older model Macs...}

Anyway, if Mozilla were able to make head or feet out of your situation, given the error message

or line of code from terminal or other internal complication due to the combination of their Firefox

and the later version of OS X in the hardware of your Mac Mini... that would be a rare incidence

of someone noticing a problem exists and seeking a cure for only one model series involved.

As I've said before...

Good luck & happy computing! 🙂
