Office upgrade to 14.5.0 as of May 12, 2015

This new update to Office for Mac 2011 can be fatal. Once installed, I can no longer open an Outlook window for e-mail, contacts, etc.

After 3 hours on the phone with MicroSoft, they admitted that the update is flawed. Right now they have no fix.

I WOULD URGENTLY RECOMMEND TO NOT INSTALL MS OFFICE UPDATE VERSION 14.5.0.

Has anyone else experienced this and survived with their Outlook in tact?

iMac (27-inch, Late 2012), OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

It's looking like a convergence of updates has broken the Outlook SyncServicesAgent (sync services on outlook 2011 - OSX lion) as I'm seeing this exact problem.

And as per River Girl, my systems are at 10.10.3 /w the Safari update and the latest Office updates. No issues as long as I keep to one/two IMAP accounts, can't confirm Exchange, POP accounts on my end ... in any case, I can confirm the terminal fix is temporary.

I've had Outlook running for over 8 hours w/ the Terminal fix. The hint to close all folders before quitting seems to work--have quit and re-launched several times w/o resorting to Terminal commands. I have 4 POP accts, no IMAP, on an independent--not on Exchange server--2013 MacBook Pro w/ Yosemite + latest Safari. I will be in the real, rocks and mortar Yosemite exactly one month from today. Can't wait to get away from all this techno-trauma.

Soltution:

1. Installed MacKeeper.

2. Deleted MS office 2011.

3. Used MacKeeper to clean up tailings.

4. Reinstalled Mac for Office 2011: found a link for it for free.

5. Recreated my user ID in Outlook for Mac 2011.

Everything back to as was.

Do not install the update for MS Office for Mac 2011.

Wait until a fix has been released.

Maybe 6 months or more?

Thanks so much to all, especially enick5 for the command line summary. To reiterate what an earlier post mentioned: if one closes Outlook with account subfolders open, the no-main-window problem indeed will reappear and the command line sequence has to be re-executed. However, on my machine at least, having the main folders of an account open does not cause the main window to be lost on re-start. FWIW, and thanks again to folks for the help.

Since downloading the said Microsoft update 14.5.0 I, like many others, have had problems with no Outlook. After eight hours of Microsoft hosting on Wednesday, and the same for Thursday, with the matter still not resolved - I have found this forum today and I really hope that someone can help me...whilst I wait for Microsoft to yet again come back to me...

Microsoft has been messing around with my identity over the last couple of days. With the assistance of Apple I used my time machine back up as at this Tuesday, but then I needed to do something with my identity, which I did, but it is not able to rebuild and is showing an error code of [-18000]. Should I be removing the Office App and then reinstalling prior to the download? Or would something else work instead?

I hope that someone can help me. Many thanks.
