Office upgrade to 14.5.0 as of May 12, 2015

This new update to Office for Mac 2011 can be fatal. Once installed, I can no longer open an Outlook window for e-mail, contacts, etc.

After 3 hours on the phone with MicroSoft, they admitted that the update is flawed. Right now they have no fix.

I WOULD URGENTLY RECOMMEND TO NOT INSTALL MS OFFICE UPDATE VERSION 14.5.0.

Has anyone else experienced this and survived with their Outlook in tact?

does ANYTHING work right in Apple land?

I have unfollowed this thread numerous times, but my mailbox is still filling up with notices of new replies.

Annoyingly, the notices don't even contain the courtesy link to the thread. THANKS FOR NOTHING 😠

Some people also noticed that this bug triggers when Folders tree is expanded (one or multiple levels down). When I collapse all the folders, then quit Outlook, then reopen - main window seems to be displayed properly every time. Normally you expand folder tree to look for stuff and it would be insane to think about collapsing them before closing Outlook. Annoying ? Absolutely. I am afraid the only permanent fix would be for Microsoft to release a patch for this. Hopefully this thread will help them to get a visibility and a better understanding of the problem for a permanent patch.

It is a user interface glitch so should be pretty easy to fix, imho.

Time Machine should be helpful a lot, but I am not doing it often enough, so that was not an option for me. On the other hand I think Time Machine restores your Outlook to a previous state before update, so there is no guarantee that the next update won't reintroduce this same bug again..

I started with this post since I had limited options. I'm working remotely, there's NO backup whatsoever, and it's hard to reinstall Office since the client's Office 2011 is on a disk (can't insert a disk into a MacBook Air with no drive and from a remote location). So I'm really glad I saw this post.

It worked, took 2 minutes or less. I've rebooted, it's still working. I did not do any rebuilds or anything else. I'll update this if it stops working. The only complaint (from the client) is having to reconfigure all her preferences (fonts, views, etc).

Thank you mkubilius!
