I didn't have this issue with my iPhone but had it with my Apple Watch after I switched from my original iPhone 6 to iPhone 7 (both on iOS 10.1.1). The health app shows my Apple Watch as a device source but if you tap on it it says this Apple Watch is no longer syncing with this iPhone. Not able to sync health data with Apple Watch made the whole product meaningless to me.

I've tried various ways to restore my watch but none worked. Since my Apple Watch is working just fine and shows my activity rings, and also if I try to manually add health data i.e. steps in the health app it doesn't show it at all, I reckon it must have been the health app that's somewhat corrupted.

After countless hours of searching I came across this post and was instantly inspired by how brilliant this unencrypted backup idea is. And it WORKS!!! I was just an inch close to erase my iPhone as new.

Thanks everyone for your kind contribution. Shame on you Apple for the problematic coding and poor support in the "genius bar". None of them seem to understand the unencrypted/encrypted difference.
