new entries revert to "new event"

Just within the last few days, Calendar has begun consistently misbehaving. I create a new event, assign it to a calendar, fill in information such as time and notes. I close the editing window, the new title displays (I'm using Month View) for just a second, and then it reverts to "New Event," and everything I've entered is lost. Oddly, when I enter all the information a second time, it always seems to stay.

As far as I know, I haven't made any changes to my OS (10.9.5) or to Calendar (7.0), neither via their settings nor any other way. FYI, I'm using iCloud to sync between the calendars on my MBPro and my iPhone (4S, running 7.1.2).

I have also (suddenly in the last few days) started having this infuriating problem re 'new event'(on 10.8.5), possibly after an Apple 'security' update, unless that's a co-incidence of timing?

Thanks to all for the workaround about saving in the default calendar and, once done, changing to a customised one. However, my default calendar is shared and I'd rather not draw attention to the fact that some things (such as medical appointments) get saved in a 'private', non-shared, calendar …

Hope this issue gets fixed soon, it's really not an impressive bug in the functionality of such an important feature!

Same problem as everyone else since the start of this thread. If I typed in the appointment maybe two or three times, it would work but ridiculous to have to do that! Then I tried using the other option for defining 'Home' or 'Work.' Have always been using the red option for 'Home' as I no longer work but when I select Green for 'Work' appointments bingo! The appointment stays and never reverts to "New Event.' Curious but there you are! I can live with green entries but come on Apple - long enough now!

Is it that we have to get to thousands of users to get a Apple to correct the issue or make some backwards compatibility? I saw we are supposed to upgrade to Yosemite? I might consider if they didn't make it so hideous looking (I personally like my operating system to have some 3-d to it and not the ugly flat look) and I hate using 3rd party apps for this type of stuff as history has shown me they make system more unstable (suggestions are welcome here if someone has better experience).

Apple - I have been a fan since 1987. I own many Apple products. You have begun to leave me though. I want a user experience that I had in earlier versions of OS X and even in OS 9... A good solid system that does the things we expect of it - like making a simple calendar entry that worked so many times before but now is broken. I should not have to enter an event 2-3 times in order for it to "stick" in my calendar. You need to be reading your forums and resolve tech support issues like these before you have a mass exodus. I do not want to have to use Google Calendar or other 3rd party calendar apps that cost me more but you may leave me no choice.

If things like this continue I do not know what I will do... IF you want to make bad code or bad design decisions then you should go work at Microsoft. The Mac should be elegant and function as it has so many times in the past!

Something new I discovered and don't remember seeing anyone post about it. Seems that if I create an event on my iMac calendar program by using the + sign (quick event), the event stays as entered on whatever calendar I choose. On my iPhone all is good too - never had an issue with that.

However, if I create an event in calendar on the iMac by double clicking on a day, it does still revert to new event and wipes all the info for the event. You can witness by being logged in to iCloud calendar and look at that while you enter the info on computer calendar and see that as soon as you double click on computer calendar an events pops up iCloud as new event and this will replace the info entered on your computer. Anyone else??

It seems that my issues are resolved. For a week or 2 my calendar entries on OSX 10.7.5, 10.9.5 and IOS online don't revert back. Today I noticed that Apple changed some things behind the scenes. When I entered a new calendar entry on OSX 10.9.5, I got a warning from Little Snitch asking me to give iCal permission for connecting to gsp1.apple.com on port 80 and another connection I forgot to jot down. I think it had to do with apple maps for location data. I never got these warnings before and since I didn't change anything nor were there any updates for iCal in the period of the issues, I presume they have changed something in the back end. Anyone else experienced some change?
