my phone won't power on, my screen went to red and blue and completely shutdown. Tried rebooting with apple support and told me it could be hardware issue.
This has happened to my wife's iPhone 5c. Hard reboot got the phone working again, and always had at least 35% power.
We never had an issue while she was on Verizon, but after we switched her to Straight Talk, this started happening. Even dropped a few calls.
Not trying to muddy the waters as far as the cause- but thought it strange it didn't happen until after the switch.

This just happened to me this morning for the first time. I had noticed the phone (6Plus) felt quite warm, but I was busy and answered a couple of texts on my MacBook Pro. (My battery had been at 97% a couple hours earlier and I hadn't used it very much) When I picked up the phone, it was cool but wouldn't turn on, no matter what I did. I plugged it into my backup charger and saw nothing on the screen. I went back to doing some work and maybe 5-10 minutes later the phone came on by itself and was at 66% of battery.
Any ideas? Does it shut itself down if it overheats? What might have caused it to overheat when it wasn't being used much?
Thanks. ~ Sue
There is an overheat shut-down but that's usually invoked when the overheating is from external sources such as out in the sun or in a hot car in the summer. The iPhone shouldn't heat up enough in a benign environment to trigger that mechanism.
So this happened to me today too. iphone6 was charging overnight, alarm worked fine in the morning, checked emails first thing, but when I got to work phone was dead. Hard reset didn't seem to work ( but not sure if I held it down long enough). Rang apple when I got home and tried several things, including another hard reset when plugged in to charge... finally when plugged in to computer and itunes the phone rebooted itself with the hard reset for at least 25secs, and was at 87% battery. Am going to be very annoyed if this is an ongoing issue!!
What gives? This same issue happened to me just 5 minutes ago, my iPhone 6 is brand new. This is unacceptable.😠
Hi - just reconfirming what I understood from Apple when I took my phone in. This is a hardware issue. They replaced my phone for free as it was still under warranty (and had no water damage). I suggest if you are having these issues that you take your phone into an Apple store ASAP before your warranty expires.
This just happened to me as well. Nothing suggested has started it back up. When i hook it into iTunes it tells me i have to update it to original settings as it won't take the "update"!? what the heck is that!?
My iPhone 6 just did this very same thing to me. I was using maps and put my phone to sleep and then it would not come back on. I tried plugging it in to the wall charger and then I plugged it to my computer and held the power and home buttons down simultaneously for several seconds and it powered back on.
Time will tell if it will happen again. Must be an OS bug, I've never had this happen with any other OS or iPhone I've owned.

This happened to me this morning. Charged at 100%. Would not turn on. Read all these posts that said to hold the home and on button for 30 sec. It finally started back up. Hope this works for anyone else having this issue.😮
My iphone 6 plus with iOS 8.4 suffered the same way yesterday. It turned itself off whilst in use browsing via wifi at home.
Recharged it for an hour (in case that was the problem) and used the reset start procedure, press and hold both buttons, and it turned on and worked - the power indicator was 100%.
Phone was working, but Wifi would not connect. Wifi slide button could not be moved to the on-position. Other slide buttons were ok.
Did a network reset and logged in and wifi worked.
The phone worked fine for one hour then turned itself off again. When turned back on the wifi would not connect.
Tried resets and power off/on over the next hour with phone on mains, with no luck.
The phone component works but no wifi. Wifi network is OK as other home devices are connected and running.
It seems it is an intermittent fault, maybe related to power, maybe wifi is a cause or a result, and symptom is it turns off in a random manner.
The symptom has increased in frequency of occurrence. Today the phone is off more than on, and no wifi possible under any scenarios.
No genius help shops where we live... iOS 9 maybe?
Your a life saver.. I just hold power and home button at the same time for couple of seconds and it worked. Thanks for the help. cheers!!🙂✅
After wife's iPhone 5c died, wouldn't power back up for anything. Ended up doing a factory reset, but it works fine now!

I had this same problem. I went to the Genius Bar twice! I had to take the phone back to factory reset after having installed the latest iOS. I lost all of my data, finally got my contacts back. The phone continued to get stuck in a "gray screen" mode. My second trip to the Genius Bar ended in a replacement iphone 6. Thanks for the 30 second tip it worked....so far!
I didn't have this problem until I installed iOS 8.4.1. Since that time, I've experienced same problem twice but was able to fix in same manner as other users have described and it does take about 20-30 seconds before restart. Apple, this is a confirmed problem SO FIX IT!!!!!!!!
