Cursor freezes, Screen spontaneously jumps to tile view

I've been working on this problem for a couple months. I've cleaned caches, virus and malware checks, removed 25GB from HD, and upgraded from 2GB to 4GB RAM. Yet the 2 problems persist.

The cursor freezes from few seconds to 30 seconds. Initially I thought it was related to device. But happens both with trackball and Mac Mouse. Have connected it to different USB ports. At times it seems to be related to the cord, ie if cord not straight, but at other times, no relationship.

The spontaneous jump to tiled view seems to always occur when cursor is having problems, but not each time. I have to click on a window to bring it back to the screen view, or can click the tile key.

I've just had the computer black out and then grey, script said something about restarting. I had to then restart. There was no reason for this, no power issues, etc. It had been very glitchy for the few hours I've been using it today. This suggests to me that the issue isn't peripherals, but some deeper issue. Is there anything I could/should have my local computer repair person check?? thx.

Well, today is even more confusing. Things were so dysfunctional, first I switched to a new USB port, no change. Then I got out the older Trackman, the one I'd retired 2 years ago. Now using this and so far not having problems, though it's only been a few minutes. But the change from my previous 2 hours of very frustrating functioning is very real. I'll keep this one through the day, later change out the keyboards. 😕 Seems like a never-ending saga.

24 hours of using this replacement Trackball. Early on it acted up on scrolling, so I went to the Logitech control center. it didn't recognize the device, so I just clicked on the device image, didn't change any settings. I've had no problems since then, none. While still interacting with Logitech forum, before coming here, I'd downloaded current software a couple times. Today, at least, it seems to have been a software issue. 😕

This now appears to be a Logitech software problem. I went a week with only 1 incident of stalling. Just now the behavior started again. I tried to open my Logitech Control Center, but instead got the Logitech installer. So I again reinstalled the software, and so far ok, though this is just minutes ago. But for some reason this software just seems to stop recognizing the device. Anyway, at least I'm finished with pestering you, Eric. Thanks.🙂
