The difference between dual-channel (matched sticks) or single channel unmatched or single stick will not be noticed. See:

I'm not talking about dual-channel (two sticks) vs. single channel (one stick). I'm talking about mixing kits, which is what you're recommending (one of the old sticks, one of the new sticks).
You can mix sticks. You just do not get dual channel.
