I lost complete access to aperture after upgrading to Yosemite. I did not know this would happen. Panicking.

I am in a complete panic. I did not realize that upgrading to Yosemite would block be from accessing Aperture. I just thought there would not be any more updates. I have lost all the effects loaded in there. But, I also cannot access my photos. I'm going crazy over here. I am trying to get the photos program to open. It's staying stuck at 0% progress in preparing photos. I need to access the things in there. I just got the manuals to try to teach myself Lightroom. I've been recovering from a severe injury and only have had one working hand for 3 months. I am so panicked, right now. I was not prepared for this change and would not have upgraded if I had known access would be lost.

What can I do, from Photos, once it finally cooperates, to get my photos to a Lightroom 5 program I have never used. Please be kind. I'm already giving myself a bad time, over here. I would deeply appreciate any guidance. I wish there was a way to keep my Aperture program usable until I was ready to make the change. That's what my plan was.

Aperture 3, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

Are you clicking on the Purchases icon in the App Store toolbar? You then should get a list of every app you have purchased from the App Store. If you see an Open button, then you still have Aperture on your hard drive or on a connected drive or partition. You need to put them in the Trash. This will not delete any of your photos which are stored in a separate library file. You need not Empty the Trash for now. Quit App Store then re-open it. Go to your Purchases page, again.

Here is a set of directions for the same process but for iPhoto:

Re: Is Iphoto gone ? i want it back!

Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1

If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash

Install the App from the App Store.

Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?

iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

Hey Bronte673d, you're Aperture Library stays in the system if you uninstall the application. It's kinda like iPhoto and iMovie. Even though you delete the application the Library database files stays on the computer via Finder regardless of what's happening with the app.

Now you want to make sure it is in your purchase history and/or the same Apple ID you used to download/purchase that app. If it was purchased with another Apple ID then that means you have to sign in with that apple ID to download again. Once you download again, your library with all your work still should be in Finder.

Hope this helps.
